The shutdown affected me!
Productive people would only notice a government shutdown if during one, taxes were no longer collected.
The shutdown actually had an effect on me this weekend. We went camping. The park we were going to camp in was run by the Army Corp of Engineers so it was closed due to the government shutdown. We had to go to the next campground up, which was run by the state.

Re: Sheesh... the noise you babies make...
Of course it affected you!
But I actually noticed that the government was shut down! That was the point. He said that good people don't notice, and I hadn't noticed, until I went to that campsite.
You are yet another of those layabouts who cannot inspect his own food supply, or test his own water, or who needs federal help to detect the progress of disease in order to keep his family from getting sick.
We don't notice those things. I was responding in tune with the shutdown affecting me in a way that I'd notice.
Next you'll be telling me you cannot negotiate your own entry into a foreign country and you want the federal assistance in getting a passport.
What kind of idiot would want to leave the greatest country on earth?
Try to enjoy the small government you've got for at least a month before you start your whining.
Huh?

Re: Sheesh... the noise you babies make...
Ok then the second gratest France,
okay now I know you must be joking.
or the third Australia, or the fourth Switzerland, fift Germany, sixth New Zealand, Seventh Luxenbourg, then the shitty countries that made the list like say eight United States.
We could kick all those country's asses.
You know, the U.S. has over 300 million people spread over almost 10 million square kilometers, spanning across four time zones and eight distinct physiographic divisions.
When you start comparing country wide statistics against tiny little countries with a handful of people in one time zone and one division, you're going to get some confusion about which one is greater.
but do you really have a net income of 37,708 $
Me personally? I make more than that.

Re: How I learned to stop worrying and default...
quote:
Mr. President, I rise today to talk about America’s debt problem. The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.
(snip)
And the cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the Federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and States of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on.
Every dollar we pay in interest is a dollar that is not going to investment in America’s priorities. Instead, insterest payments are a significant tax on all Americansa debt tax that Washington doesn’t want to talk about. If Washington were serious about honest tax relief in this country, we would see an effort to reduce our national debt by returning to responsible fiscal policies.
(snip)
Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘‘the buck stops here.’’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.
-Senator Obama, 2006

Just exactly how many times do we have to tell them that our taxes hasn't increased at all and have actually lowered since Obama took office before we can say "ok, something else is driving these people beside ignorance and misinformation"?
What!? There was a payroll tax increase in January that affected everybody who was employed. My weekly check dropped by almost 5%.

So, we got informed of the changes to our health insurance here at work. I'm paying a little more per week now, the co-pay went up a little, and the percentages that they pay went down.
I am literally paying more money for less insurance.
One of the problems I have with you lefties is that the wonderful things that you tell me that your policies are going to result in don't actually happen to me in real life.

That's happened to me every year for quite a while now.
Our's has been consistent until this year.
Even when it comes to health care increases, I dont think anyone has actually said that we expect premiums and copays to go down for those who already have insurance.
I was told on these forums here that this new healthcare stuff would cause the cost to go down.
More important than lowering the costs for people who already have insurance is eliminating the ability of insurers to deny coverage or charge increased prices for those with pre-existing conditions,
Why not just pass a law against that then? Seems odd to fine people for not buying insurance to further that goal.
Rather, the objective is to make group plans available apart from employment so that individuals can receive the cost benefits of group plans even when their employers don;t offer them.
What's stopping people from forming groups and bartering with the insurance companies and making plans? Why would you need the federal government involved for that?
since you're receiving healthcare from your employer, you aren't who the ACA is targeted at in the first place.
Yeah, I was smart and did the right thing in the first place... fuck me, right?
