ABE, I have no objections.

I always assumed Saul Alinsky was some kind of conservative, because conservatives are the only people who still talk about him.

Why would anyone object?
Is there any post in this thread that implies anyone would object? Personally I think the secession petitions are hilarious and that the right response from the White House should be "Go for it!".

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Texans have always wanted a taller border fence. I say we start building it at the northern border of Texas. If Oklahoma wants to join them I say let'em.
ABE: Perhaps they can allow Austin to remain independent as liberal oasis? Kind of like the Vatican, only completely different?

The Liberal parts of Texas and fences.
Surprisingly Texas is not one of the big supporters of the border fence, at least those sections along the border are not strong supporters.
But it is also the most liberal area of the Texas.

Be careful what you wish for...
Folks in Texas might want to mull over what happens to oil producing theocracies these days.

Folks shouldn't object to that, should they?
No objection at all: the right has been radical far longer than the left.

And if the US sends Ambassador Glaspie to Texas then Louisiana had better move their troops to the border.

Both of them?
We must have a Dean somewhere who could draw a defensive perimeter that excludes The Republic of Texas.
Mexico will understand.

Sounds like a few on the right are just employing some of Saul D. Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals."
I think they're actually following the instructions of his lesser-known volume "Rules For Conservatives", in which he urges them to behave like whiny losers so that the left can mock them. As Alinsky put it in this seminal but much-neglected work:
Remember, the first people who tried to secede from the USA were a bunch of racist traitors whose attempt to divide the nation ended in a humiliating defeat. Please, please, please drape their mantle over your shoulders at every possible opportunity. Oh, and if you feel one of those amusing ghost costumes would help, you go for it.

Re: My Stance
Let them all secede then invade and bring the gift of democracy to the poor wretches. The economy will be booming in no time. Boeing and Haliburton will have a job for everyone. Good times ahead.

but it seems that whenever we get our rights infringed upon slightly
And in this case what is the right that has been slightly infringed?
I see the petitions as a pretty funny way of blowing off steam. The administration can dismiss the petitions fairly easily.

Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846)
The apathy of the people is enough to make every statue leap from its pedestal and hasten the resurrection of the dead. William Lloyd Garrison.
If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. Frederick Douglass

Re: Foreign Nationals
As I understand how it works, you do not need to be a US citizen to serve in the US military. Military service is a path to citizenship, but I do not believe that it is a requirement. For example, we have gotten many Phillipinos enlisting and retiring to go home to live in the Phillipines and receive their retirement pay there (one Navy CAPT I served with was involved in a fraud investigation where the family did not report the death of the retired member and kept cashing his checks).
You do not have to be a US citizen to enlisted in the armed services. However, you do have to be a US citizen to be a commissioned officer (federal Title 10 law prohibits non-citizens from being commissioned officers). Also, you cannot enlist if you are an illegal alien (though I am sure some slip through the cracks).
Oh, most definitely build the tallest wall we can!
With a minefield, moat with crocodiles, and automated machine gun placements.

letting texas go?
Many Citizens feel that Federal Government Regulations are hurting the economy and their quality of life in my city. If one state was to leave, it would bring other states into questioning such a value, and turn into a mess really quickly.
I believe that what we need is lawmakers and representatives of the Federal government to actually address CITIZEN needs of protection for rights of Life, Liberty, and pursuit of happiness.
The federal government is failing citizens in protecting those 'rights' which are not very well defined.
Texas is a Lucrative state, holding a lot of gas and oil refineries and a strong economy, losing it as part of the union would be a critical blow to U.S. economic strength, especially since a lot of states are not doing so well.
But...thats just my personal opinion.

keep your mind from this way of enquiry, for never will you show that not-being is
