As a relatively recent member, I feel a little sad to have missed out on what were clearly some great debates and/or very informative threads from the past.
But with something over 9,000 threads on the site, I don't have time to track down and read the best ones.
Would it be possible for some of our warhorses to have a forum (or a topic), to assemble some pointers to the great threads of the past, for me and any other newcomers to have a read of ? Maybe a sticky in the Links & Information forum ? (Members proposing a link to a great thread might like to include a thumbnail of the debate, and/or any members participating, but no longer contributing ?)

Posts of the Month
Posts of the Month is a great place to start.

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Re: Posts of the Month
Yeah, I've been using that a bit, and there's bound to be a good amount of overlap - but still, I'd be interested in the wider pointers to the whole threads that people really enjoyed, (as well as the particularly pithy or well constructed individual posts in POTM).
No biggie though

Except when it gets cluttered with nominations for shitty posts by creationists just to make them feel wanted.

Re: Posts of the Month
That is true, but POTM runs much the same risk, without any problems. (And in any event, it might be quite interesting to see which threads any creationist members thought were particularly good). No one's obliged to follow a suggestion - you could simply go with the suggestions of members you believe will point you right.

Re: Posts of the Month
For what it's worth I think it's a good idea. But choices will inevitably be very subjective and it depends what sort of threads you are interested in.
Some of the most fun ones involving creationists (in a head banging sort of way) involve Buzsaw on space-time physics and the Big Bang. Threads such as The Unbended Curved Bar Space Slugout Thread or Buzsaw Biblical Universe Origin Hypothesis vs Singularity Universe Origin Theory
If you want a more philosophical and nuanced type of thread then I know God exists & the court of highest appeal is me. is a good one in my opinion (look out for Mod's contribution in that one).
Pseudoskepticism and logic and Why "Immaterial Pink Unicorns" are not a logical argument are both debates I enjoyed and that whole topic of whether atheism is rational or pseudoskeptical is one that is still rumbling on into perpetuity........
Let me know what sort of topics you like and I'll try and think of some past good ones of that type.

The Illusion of Free Will
I have to include a thread on freewill in my "recommended" list coz it's one of those topics I find myself changing my mind about continually.
Anyway - If the topic of freewill floats your boat the linked to thread above is one of the latest (and greatest..) on that subject.

Oh yeah...
I'd forgotten about Has The Supernatural Hypothesis Failed?
That was one of my faves to participate in too.

Toot! Toot!!
Did you hear that? That was the sound of my own horn. And oh, what a beautiful instrument to hear. Just take a moment and marvel at that majestic music. Oh, sorry... got a bit sidetracked there. Where was I? Oh yes, telling you about all the threads I've started and participated in:
Morality and Subjectivity (April 2006)
Begun by: robinrohan
A discussion about the basis of morals in the realm of subjectivity.
Why It Is Right To Do Good To Others (June 2007)
Begun by: Stile
Explores my preferred solution, and part of the development of my own moral system. Things have evolved since then into an even more glorious and funnest thing ever.
But I was so cute when I was little...
Belief in Deity vs Belief in Fictional Four (October 2007)
Begun by: mjfloresta
A discussion about the differences between belief in God vs. belief in Santa Claus
Similar to How does one distinguish faith from delusion? provided by Modulous above.
Problems with being an Atheist (or Evolutionist) (December 2008)
Begun by: Stile
This is where I answer all questions ever asked. About a specific topic, only seen by a few.
But I'm still the awesomest!
What Benefits Are Only Available Through God? (October 2009)
Begun by: Stile
This is where I challenge God to a game of chess and totally win without losing a piece!
Dude can create universes with the best of them... but he's got no street smarts, you know what I mean?
There are other threads that I have participated in, and even begun. But sometimes it's best not to overwhelm everyone else with too much awesome all at once. When you're ready for the big leagues you can click on my name and it'll list all posts I've ever done in the world. Bring your own sunglasses.

.. too tooting to two or more threads ... (does that make me an old fart?)
Hi vimesey,
If I can toot my own horn (even with several of my topics already listed ), except as noted (these are topics that interested me enough to create or read\participate):
Age
Origins\Abiogenesis
Biology
Geology\Fossils
That first one is possibly the longest running thread on the forum, having been updated and reposted 4 times, and now running to 964 posts, but you don't need to read the earlier versions ...
On closed threads I would go to the end to see if there are summary posts (a fairly recent addition to ending threads that lets each poster on the thread make a summary of their position/s, so you don't have to read the whole thread unless you want to see how these develop in the course of the thread)
Enjoy

Gender and Humor
My personal fav for obvious reasons was the Gender and Humor thread.
It's not a good thread unless someone gets suspended.
