If I made a joke about your son being kidnapped or molested, would you be able to laugh at that given that the joke was actually funny? ...or would you dismiss any possibility of the joke being funny because of the subject matter?
In the normal course of events no problem with that subject matter as the basis for humour at all. Indeed I regularly make such "poor taste" jokes on these sorts of subjects myself (recently after complaining that my kids were constantly screaming and doing my head in I ended my little diatribe by saying "maybe if I stopped torturing the little bastards they'd stop howling so much". This went down like a lead balloon with the concerned parent types at work who had up to that point been listening sympathetically to my long winded moan. I await the imminent call from social services)
But if I was in the middle of a real situation involving these things (e.g son really ad been kidnapped and molested) and someone decided that I was an easy target for such jokes I would be less inclined to see the funny side... In fact I'd very likely try to punch the fucker into the middle of next week.
So I guess it's context dependent.
