Hey vimesey
I watched a movie called The Green Street Hooligans. It is about football fan violence in the UK and a rowdy bunch of guys who go around beating the shit out of people. I was wondering how much of that really goes on. It blows my mind that a game of football would drive people to beat on the head of someone else who also loves the game but just the wrong team.

I happened in the past but it depends in which country you are playing. In my country people formed two gangs. La Ultrafiel and Los Revos. They where very dangerous last year and even managed to get people killed. Though its not an evertday thing. In fact is not very common,

Holy shit. I was reading up on what football was like in Honduras and came across this.
Honduras is also notable for the Football War which was fought against El Salvador, after the Salvadorans qualified for the 1970 World Cup eliminating Honduras. The elimination by the Salvadorans initiated the armed conflict after political tensions due to the deportations of Salvadoran nationals (see Football War). I thought sports were what you did instead of killing each other.

The game did not cause the war. It was because of immigrants. Why would El Salvador be mad at us for a game they won?

... what do you people think about world's most beautiful game? Whoa, I didn't know you all were into real football. It certainly is the most beautiful game. Not at all like that soccer crap the rest of the world insists on playing with whole teams running around trying to avoid each other and scoring only rarely and, it seems, only by accident. What the hell kinda game has guys in shorts and tee shirts running around for the whole game doing nothing but not scoring? 90 minutes of prancing here and there all for one goal in the whole damn game? And heaven forbid any blood shows up. It's penalized? What the hell is that all about? Pansy asses. There is nothing like having 22 big guys hitting each other with full body at full speed, trying to destroy the guy with the ball or trying to destroy the guys trying to destroy the guy with the ball. Twisting, spinning, churning runs carrying 2 or 3 big heavy brutes on your back foot by foot to the end zone. And the passing! Timing patterns with pinpoint accuracy at 20 to 40 yards for a touchdown. Flubbed up ducks to the wrong guy for a pick-6. Such beauty! Well, it's nice to know there are some real fans for the real game in the international realm.

I would like to know more about the FFP. So you can only spen as much as you gain The amount spent on transfer fees, wages, and all bonuses and benefits will not be allowed to exceed the amount you receive in gate receipts, advertising, merchandising, prize money, TV revenue and transfer fees. So the big brands who can rake in far more money in sponsorship, merchandise sales and TV deals are likely to become an ossified elite at the top. Real and Barcelona already dominate Spain, where they have seperate TV deals from the rest of the league and a huge global brand to shift merchandise. The only possible way I can see that dominance undermined would be by a billionaire somewhere deciding he wanted to give Atletico or Valencia a huge pile of cash to enable them to compete. That will no longer be permitted.

Green Street is a terrible film - a slightly better one on the same subject (with a great soundtrack) would be Football Factory. Despite the reputation, however, English football violence is nowhere near as bad as it used to be. Some countries do still have big hooligan problems though - Russia and parts of the former Yugoslavia, for example. It's just tribal violence, and it's nothing new. Supporters of the different teams of charioteers in early medieval Constantinople used to riot in the streets and murder each other. People aren't so bright.

CB writes: Hmm maybe there arent many soccer fans out there ( or at least in this forum). There are some here... Although you would have to be an absolute masochist to try and start a thread about cricket The Ashes. But I tried. I suppose you could say that I support my local team Crystal Palace. Have taken my sonto a couple of matches this season. In Champions league terms I guess I sorta vaguely support the English teams when they are playing. I enjoy watching Barca and Real. I wish Arsenal (another London team) would do a bit better...
