Buzsaw
I think of him fairly often myself. I was pleased to see that no one had the inclination to speak ill of him in the closeout to the last Great Debate Buz participated in.

Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846)

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. Frederick Douglass

Buzz miss that howling cowboy and coyote.

Yah. I live in the Adirondacks now, near Buz's long-time stomping grounds.
That move was in the planning stages before Buz died, and I always imagined us having a beer of peace up here. I could read his love of the land between the lines, and I suspect he was a gifted steward of it. I imagined us meeting amid these old mountains and valleys and discovering that the love of this place, this huge thing we had in common, helped to bridge our differences; I like to think it would have.
In fact, I find the natural world so exquisite that pantheism is the only thing that makes any emotional sense to me--and wouldn't that have made Buz all Old Testament-y sonorous and patriarchal?
So now a dead man I never met, with whom I disagreed passionately about so much, haunts my landscape.
Go figure.

Poignant
That was a truly poignant and very beautiful little tribute to Buz.
I felt it deserved more than just a cheer.

When he was still alive, I often felt that we would get along well in real life. The same applies to Faith and some of the other more vociferous crazies around here.
Distance makes the heart grow fonder, including intellectual distance. Sometimes it's easier to feel empathy for the starving and downtrodden on the other side of the world than the ones in our own back yard - and sometimes maybe it's easier to like people you disagree with fundamentally than people you niggle with over details.

Merry Christmas ya bastids!
I looked for something in CH to express some holiday cheer and this was the closest thing I could find just cuz Buz would've loved us celebrating him - on Xmas.
I took a break f/ here for a few days, getting the house ready for fam & such. Glad I did since the whole Faith thing, tanking in the Grand Canyon, took a dive - over ten pages since I read it last? Jeez.
I wish all here, & even the bots spying, a really good time over the next few days. I'm not naming any names, but you guys are really the best geeks ever!
*just a caligal trying to get along*
