I think it is more likely he's talking like in the Book of Enoch:
quote:
And there I saw closed storehouses from which the winds are distributed, and the storehouse of the hail, and the storehouse of the mist, and the storehouse of the clouds; and its cloud remained over the earth, from the beginning of the world.
Enoch: 41:4
This is evidenced in other places in commonly accepted scriptures, Psalm 33:7
quote:
He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.
And Psalms 135:7
quote:
He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain; he bringeth the wind out of his treasuries.
Which makes sense as YHWH says 'entered the treasures' which seems to indicate a spatial location where the treasures of snow are, rather than hinting that Job had not seen ice crystals or something.
Question: How can you ignore this scripture as to God's REVEALING His knowledge of the wonders of snow 5000 years before the microscope? AND NOT BE CONSIDERED INTELLECTUALLY IMMORAL for doing so?
If it mentioned something that could only be detected with a microscope, that'd be something. Unfortunately this is not a scientific insight in the Bible. As with many poetical utterances to a culture long gone, we can make many guesses as to the meaning of the authors, but to make a case that the author was hinting that YHWH knew about the beauty of ice crystals etc is a very long stretch, I'm afraid.

Sorry, why are you quoting Enoch in relation to this thread
That and the other quotes from accepted scriptures were to support the notion that the ancients of the near east believed snow and hail and winds were kept in gods storehouses.
I'm content to conclude you to be intellectually immoral not to mention a filthy pirate for quoting from an unrelated source.
Please keep discussion civil. Argue the position, not the person. You agreed this rule when you signed up. Why are you breaking your word?

Re: No "interpretation" is required or necessary.
But how can my "interpretation" be an "interpretation" per say, when a plain surface reading of the text confirm it's meaning?
Are you saying the plain surface text reading is that God knows scientific truths about ice crystals that Job doesn't?
Why is every one resorting to perversions of scripture and every form heathen gnostic text to wash over the plain reading of the text in my OP.
The book of Enoch is not a heathen gnostic text but a Jewish text that was eventually excluded from the canon. It's inclusion in the discussion, along with other canon references serves to show what these people generally meant when they referred to 'treasures of the snow' and how one might 'enter into it'.

Re: No "interpretation" is required or necessary.
My dear modulous, yes that is precisely what I am saying, did I not clearly convey this position in my OP?
Where is the reference to 'small' or 'microscopic'? Where is the reference to crystals? Or invisible patterns? What does this have to do with preparations for war? What scientific insights can we find in the discussion on lightning in the same passage?
Phew, are you a little slow on the uptake or is this your way of being petulant and pedantic within forum guidelines? I'm just seeking the truth.
It was my way of asking you if you were explicitly saying that the plain reading of a rhetorical question about entering into treasures of snow is that snow has a microscopic beauty that can be treasured.
Now that it's laid out explicitly, I have no idea how you came to that conclusion. As far as I can tell, the plain text reading is that there are treasures of snow set aside by YHWH for certain eventualities.
Maybe you are right, and I'm 'slow on the uptake'. So talk me through how your reading is the 'plain' reading.
Enoch, cannon?
Yes, Enoch. A book written by a group more culturally connected to the authors of Job than you or I. I think that makes it a useful resource.
And yes, canon. You know...
The 66 books is Scripture
That canon. Are you suggesting that referring to other canonical books of the 66 or however many one believes there are (and Enoch is canon to some) such as Psalms or the rest of passage in Job is somehow off limits for attempting to understand this single verse you seem to like?
