You've got to be kidding!???
You're citing Velikovsky as a source, and you expect someone to accord you (or him) any credibility?

Bs'd

Did you read the book? Or are you just ranting about something you know nothing about?

"According to scientific rules, in order for critics to disprove the Torah codes, they would have to find fatal flaws in each of the six papers presenting a different approach and a different code. This happened five years ago, and to date not a single flaw was found in any of these papers. Therefore, for all intent and purposes, the Torah codes have been scientifically proven, and the debate is over."

Oh really? You know, that's funny because the wikipedia article on the history of the Jews in Egypt makes no mention of them being rulers. They were immigrants to that area forming part of the original trade economy.

Bs'd

And you think that when Wikipedia doesn't mention something, then it doesn't exist??

You want to cite me a source that isn't some vague blogpost from a crackpot?

Velikovsky was a genius who made Albert Einstein pale in comparison.

History is a very soft science. Well, let's face it, it is not a science at all.

It is based on assumptions and unproven theories.

And the proofs Velikovsky brings in his book "Ages in Chaos" are so strong that a blind man can see he is right.

Just read the book and your eyes will be opened.

And you think that when wikipedia DOES mention something it doesn't count?

Velikovsky's ideas have been almost entirely rejected by mainstream academia (often vociferously so) and his work is generally regarded as erroneous in all its detailed conclusions. Moreover, scholars view his unorthodox methodology (for example, using comparative mythology to derive scenarios in celestial mechanics) as an unacceptable way to arrive at conclusions.

The late Stephen Jay Gould[33] offered a synopsis of the mainstream response to Velikovsky, writing, "Velikovsky is neither crank nor charlatan—although, to state my opinion and to quote one of my colleagues, he is at least gloriously wrong... Velikovsky would rebuild the science of celestial mechanics to save the literal accuracy of ancient legends."

It seems that Mr Velikovsky is as selective as you are in choosing what he wants to believe and just like you, avoids the actual evidence.

Velikovsky's revised chronology has been rejected by nearly all mainstream historians and Egyptologists. It was claimed, starting with early reviewers, that Velikovsky's usage of material for proof is often very selective.[40][41][42] In 1965 the leading cuneiformist Abraham Sachs, in a forum at Brown University, discredited Velikovsky's use of Mesopotamian cuneiform sources.[43] Velikovsky was never able to refute Sachs' attack.[44] In 1978, following the much-postponed publication of further volumes in Velikovsky's Ages in Chaos series, the United Kingdom-based Society for Interdisciplinary Studies organised a conference in Glasgow specifically to debate the revised chronology.[45] The ultimate conclusion of this work, by scholars including Peter James, John Bimson, Geoffrey Gammonn, and David Rohl, was that the Revised Chronology was untenable.[46]

This must surely qualify for running as joke of the year. Do jokers get portable statues awarded to them somehere around LA once a year?

Edited by Pressie, : No reason given.

Oh, I think a blind man has.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Re: ``

Well let's see:

1. Einstein.

- Supporters: virtually the entire scientific community, barring a few crackpots.
- Detractors: a few religious fundamentalists, who want science to fit a bronze age story.
- Evidence: immensely in favor - eg, every one of billions of journeys with a SatNav shows Einstein's theories to be correct.

2. Velikovsky

- Supporters: a few religious fundamentalists, who want science to fit a bronze age story.
- Detractors: virtually the entire scientific community, barring a few crackpots.
- Evidence: immensely against - eg, every large ice core drilled since his book fails to support Velikovsky's theories.

Who to believe, who to believe.....

I'm an archaeologist, so I know something about dating.

You, on the other hand, seem to be a religious zealot so you follow belief rather than evidence. That's not a very commendable trait and not a very secure basis for correcting others.

Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge.
