Re: Faith's new favorite source
It's called the fallacy of replying-to-someone-who-writes-"She-obviously-has-a-strong-grasp-of-truth"-by-demonstrating-that-she-has-only-the-most-tenuous-grasp-on-reality. Though some pedants have pointed out that this is not actually a fallacy.

Son Of Late Snake-Handling Pastor Is Bitten By Rattlesnake

When I use a word, Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone, it means just what I choose it to meannothing more nor less.

Re: Like Father Like Son
quote:
"Coots has been bitten nine times by venomous snakes. Each time he refused medical attention. Half of his right middle finger is gone as a result of a fang from a yellow rattler. In 1995, a woman who was bit in his church refused to go to the hospital; she died on Coots' couch while church members prayed over her."
I have a suggestion: can we import a few snakes from overseas for these lunatics? Maybe a King Brown from Australia or a Black Mamba from Africa. My guess is these bozos are going to find out quite rapidly what happens when you mess with those serpents.
Hey, if they truly believe they can handle snakes without fear, that should include ALL snakes, right?

Re: Faith's new favorite source
Oh look, she uses The Protocols Of The Elders Of Zion as a text for homeschooling, it's part of the fifth-grade curriculum.

Might as well toss in Dianetics at this stage. Or go for the trifecta and also include 'Atlas Shrugged'.
This is what us Canadians might call the 'Looney Hat Trick'.

Re: Faith's new favorite source [this is a lie]
No, it's the fallacy of imputing to me the acceptance of the whole when all I affirmed was the small part actually referred to, having no knowledge of the site of my own. This is very sleazy debate form.

Re: Faith's new favorite source [this is a lie]
So when you say someone "has a strong grasp of truth" you just mean they're right about one thing? You'd say Stalin "had a strong grasp of truth" because he knew his six times table?

If you'd stop saying things without thinking you wouldn't be constantly engaged in attempts to convince people you didn't say what you very clearly said. It's still right there in Message 57.
Wouldn't it be easier to just go back and edit your old messages instead of trying to convince people that words have completely different meanings when you use them?

It is obvious to anyone who knows how to read that I was responding only to what was quoted to me. All the rest was dug up later to insinuate the lie that I accept everything at that site.

Re: Faith's new favorite source [this is a lie]
Having "a strong grasp of the truth" can hardly be inferred simply by her posting or agreeing with some of Coston's essays. Rather it speaks to similar pro-Stuart prejudices (Tracey, like Coston, is, for instance, definitely not a fan of the Puritan Commonwealth). And let us not forget that one of those essays defends the burning of men for heresy.
Her endorsement of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and of geocentrism on the other hand weigh rather heavily against any such idea and in favour of the idea that she is a "loony"
If you were to be honest, Faith, I think that you would have to admit that your declaration was a kneejerk reaction that happened to be badly mistaken.

Until I've read it for myself I don't have an opinion about her site as a whole. Meanwhile why can't you all admit that your tactics are sleazy?

The message you responded to, Message 55, contains no quotes. It had a link to the site.
Your response, which also contains no quotes, ends with this:
quote:
I'll have to spend more time at her site, she obviously has a strong grasp of truth.
To me, a person who knows how to read, it looks like you are saying that you had spent some time on her site and what you saw there were a lot of things that you agreed with.
And nobody has implied that you except everything there.

You think that endorsing geocentrism and the Protocols of the Elders of Zion isn't enough to regard her as unreliable ? And I note that you were quite prepared to say that she had "a strong grasp of the truth" without making such an evaluation.

What tactics ? I have no idea of what you are talking about.
