Could you please quote pertinent parts from it? It's still blocked to non-subscribers.
I just tried the same link and this time it was blocked for me too. Must have been some kind of glitch because I do not subscribe.

Re: WSJ on Ibrahim and persecuted Christians
quote:
Amnesty International has admirably agitated for Meriam Ibrahim's release, but partly on grounds of Amnesty's opposition to the death penalty. Even many Christian churches in the West seem to be too constrained by ethnic sensitivities to assert themselves on behalf of their persecuted brethren. They haven't paid much attention to the near-extermination of the ancient Christian communities in Iraq during the past decade of turmoil, or to the systematic destruction of Coptic churches in Egypt by Islamic radicals in 2013.
Note here that Allen is directing this part of her ire at churches rather than at hostile non-believers.
quote:
Meriam Ibrahim did manage to gain the attention and sympathy of the West by reason of her courage, her beauty, her status as a mother of two young children and the extreme circumstances of her case. If there are parallels between her experience and a story of ancient martyrdom, the lesson might be that the West's cultured classes' hostility to Christianity, like that of their of Roman forbears, results in a passivity that tolerates attacks on people whose only crime is their faith.
This portion seems to be directed at the people who are persecuting Faith.

Now here's some serious persecution of Christians!
Not trying to raise the insanity, but it is horrible.
Damn, doesn't work. Can't fix it on the tablet.
Works! The preview lied to me.

Re: Now here's some serious persecution of Christians!
Yes it is horrible, thanks for posting this. I hear about these things through Christian sources, really sad how the West has allowed these things to go on without doing anything about it. The connection with the war in Iraq is sad, I still remember Bush's stupid "Islam is a religion of peace" remark. And Meriam Ibrahim is still holed up in the American embassy in Sudan. Sudan doesn't want to let her go, she's sort of an emblem of their right to impose Islam on everybody.

The current persecution is primarily being instigated by her own family.

I thought it was mostly about her supposedly having forged documents.

Re: Now here's some serious persecution of Christians!
Faith writes:
"[t]he West has allowed these things to go on without doing anything about it"
What would you propose "the West" do? Who is "the West?" Should "we" go to war with every predominantly Muslim nation? Should we take over their government? How would that go? Would that prevent terrorism or create more terrorism?
Why aren't Christians from all hemispheres lining up to confront these demonic dictators instead of relying upon (and admonishing) "Western" leadership to do so? Is your god so weak that it must work through the most bureaucratic process possible?

"You are metaphysicians. You can prove anything by metaphysics; and having done so, every metaphysician can prove every other metaphysician wrong--to his own satisfaction. You are anarchists in the realm of thought. And you are mad cosmos-makers. Each of you dwells in a cosmos of his own making, created out of his own fancies and desires. You do not know the real world in which you live, and your thinking has no place in the real world except in so far as it is phenomena of mental aberration." -The Iron Heel by Jack London

Her family sued her. I hear that's been dropped.

I read that the suit was dropped and reinstated again. The charges are in essence apostasy and the resulting shame to the family. Only in a theocracy...

Re: Free!
Hooray indeed!!
Some more detail from CNN
quote:
Mariam Yehya Ibrahim, the Sudanese Christian woman sentenced to death in Sudan because of her faith, arrived in Rome on Thursday, the Italian Foreign Ministry said.
Now their dream of starting a new life in the United States appears to be on the verge of becoming reality.
And of course some GPH [1]
quote:
During the meeting Thursday, which lasted about half an hour, Ibrahim thanked the Pope for his and the Roman Catholic Church's support and prayers, the Vatican said.
He, in turn, thanked Ibrahim and her family for their "courageous witness and constancy of faith."
Francis also played with the children, 18-month-old Martin and 2-month-old Maya, and greeted the Italian diplomats involved in her journey to Italy.
