Questions
How the hell did you put up with someone like Paul or Calvin or Luther?
Where do the Dalai Lamas hang out?
Have you seen Ganesha lately?
When's the BBQ and Low Country Boil?
Where can I get a good pint of bitter?

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Re: My Question for God
Yes, we certainly know that is what you believe, but I for one would hate and fear a world where evil was prevented by some God.

Re: My Question for God
What's the difference between you preventing evil and a God preventing evil?
If you're against a God preventing evil... are you also against yourself preventing evil?
Are you against preventing evil of any kind, at all times?
The former is a human effort and learning experience while I can see no human advantage to the later, simply oppression.
I am not against humans trying to prevent evil or mitigate any ill effects. I am most definitely not against preventing evil of any kind at all times, but I am also most definitely not in favor of it.

Where can I get a good pint of bitter? If you hang around here long enough, you will find that our Spirit is much better than any spirits that you drink.
If that's the case then I'm off to a good pub.

Re: My Question for God
Phat writes:
Does this mean that you see no human advantage---in general---with God doing things for us?
Not just no human advantage but rather a significant disadvantage.
Phat writes:
I prefer a God who favors humanity.
Do you? Why do you favor a God that prefers one of his children more than the others? Does he favor the atheist and Muslim and Satanist and Hindi and Jew and Taoist the same as the Christian?
Phat writes:
Perhaps I grew up with the idea that a parent who favors(dare I say spoils) their children is preferred over a cold one who boots the birds out of the nest and says sink or swim.
I don't doubt that is how you grew up. Perhaps it even shows.
But those are not the only options. A third type of parent teaches the child how to do stuff. Instead of changing the tire for the child teaches the child how to change the tire; instead of setting up the tent teaches the child how to select the right spot and set up the tent; instead of starting the fire teaches the child how to start a fire; instead of washing the clothes teaches the child how to do laundry; instead of fixing dinner teaches the child how to cook.
And note you said "a cold one" in your example as though booting the birds out of the nest cannot be an act of love.

I wonder if they expect godlike behavior out of him?
Do you mean that Trump might cause a host of plagues just to prove who has the bigger dick or turn people into stone for simply looking over their shoulder or cheat in a trial of strength or lie about what will happen or kill innocent babies or wipe out all life on Earth or other God like behaviors then I hope not but it is certainly possible.

Three swings from Mike, three strikes.
mtw writes:
1. God is not Hitler. (an omniscient and omipotent God can't be compared to Hitler for starters, because what motivates a man does not motivate God.)
Actually according to the Bible stories what motivates the God character is exactly the same as what motivates humans; a need to show off, satisfaction with a job completed, to prove She has a bigger dick, a fit of pique, jealousy, fear ...
mtw writes:
2. Evil doesn't exist under atheism.
Of course evil can exist under any belief or non-belief system. Don't be silly. If the consensus of a community that some act is evil then that act is evil within that community.
It really is that simple. Of course even the most immoral evil acts were those committed by the God character in so many of the Bible stories.
mtw writes:
3. You still use, "evil" and pretend that anyone not of your position is, "evil".
Another really stupid comment that is simply not supported by reality. Many people not of my position are not evil. I may well think they are wrong but in many cases I will even go so far as to support their right to be wrong.
