Re: Having problems getting photos to display and links to work
My only guess is that Wordpress is blocking them according to criteria it sees in the CGI header, which varies from browser to browser and website to website. Can you put the images somewhere else?
Anyone else had trouble with images sponsored at Wordpress?

I didn't fix anything - if you can reconstruct your original approach it should still work.

Re: Hey Percy, in your vast abount of spare time ...
You're requesting some automation that makes a lot of sense, and I like automation. In this case I'd provide administrative buttons (means visible only to admins) to carry out functions like this with a single click.
As to when, that depends. My reserves of spare time may be increasing soon. Stay tuned.

Improvement to Positioning Messages into View
A minor improvement has been made to the way messages are positioned into view. The "Reply To" and "Replies" links to messages on the same page are now links (previously they were Javascript positioning code). This has several positive effects:
  • Clicking on these links puts them in your browser's history, so now clicking on "Back" and "Forward" includes these links.
  • They can be dragged and dropped into other browser tabs and windows.
  • They can be copied and pasted.
Bugs are possible, please report them here.

Re: Specific message links not going to specific message
Any new link should work because they should all have "#MessageID" on the end, but old links without it won't position to the message. I'll fix this later today.

Several Minor Fixes/Improvements Released
I've just released these minor fixes and improvements:
  • Old links to messages should now position messages properly at the top the browser page.
  • In the board's control panel (only accessible to moderators), the information provided for the member search function now includes the registration IP address. The "Next 50 Members" link now also works properly.
  • The [utube] code now accepts a start time argument. Simply include a "t=" argument specifying the hours, minutes and seconds, like this:
    [utube=YRxS8IVQRcs,t=1h5m23s]
You can leave out those parts you don't need, for example:
    [utube=YRxS8IVQRcs,t=5m]
Edited by Admin, : Simplify YouTube examples.

Re: Specific message links... - Also member rating request
I'm still not happy with the rating formula. When I fix it for hopefully the last time I'll update the tooltip, too.

Re: Specific message links... - Also member rating request
You can sort on the member ratings on the members page:
As you can see it's an all or nothing kind of thing. A very few people get high ratings, everyone else gets the dregs. As I write this Asgara has 10 while the next highest is dwise1 with 4.9.
I like providing options, so a board configuration option that allows an n-star rating system would be something I'd be interested in eventually doing. I'm in a particularly difficult piece of implementation right now, but usually I can whip through these kinds of things in short order, so when I finish with the current work I'm hoping progress will increase substantially. When I begin work on changes to the rating system I'll solicit input, but I don't know when that will be.

I *am* seeing incorrect behavior in IE 11, but something different than what you describe. When a message link (e.g., Message 355) is to a message on another page of the thread, then clicking on it in IE 11 doesn't always display that message at the top of the page. When the message isn't displayed at the top of the page, then sometimes it is displayed somewhere on the page, just not at the top, and other times the window is positioned at the top of the page nowhere near the message. I don't know what might be causing this occasional misbehavior, but none of the other browsers do this. Does anyone have some insights into this behavior?
About the behavior you're seeing, that the bottom part of one message is displayed along with the top part of another, I was unable to duplicate that behavior. Has anyone else seen anything like this with IE 11?
Edited by Admin, : Fix sig.

Re: Graphics Resolution
There have been no changes to the button or emoticon images - they all have modification dates of 2009 and 2010. Which browser and version are you using?
You might try hitting Ctrl-0 in case you've zoomed in on your browser window. The images might look a little pixelated in that case.

Re: new process on reply posting capture a winner
I can't take credit. All the major browsers are now saving the current state of all browser windows and tabs so they can be restored in the event of a crash.

Date/Times in the Upcoming 5.0 Release
Still no date for the upcoming 5.0 release, but I thought I'd update you on changes to date/times:
  • About timezones, in 4.0 members can choose between the board's timezone and the timezone of their local device or computer. In 5.0 members will be able to choose between selecting any world timezone and the timezone of their local device or computer.
  • About timezone names, in 4.0 members can create their own name for the timezone they're using, for example, "ET (US)" for Eastern Time US. In 5.0 members will no longer be able to create their own name for their timezone. Standard timezone names will be used, such as "America/New_York" or "Europe/London".
  • About the number of digits displayed for the year, in 4.0 years are always displayed as 4 digits. In 5.0 members will be able to choose to have years displayed as 2 or 4 digits, e.g., 3/17/15 or 3/17/2015.
  • About the time format, in 4.0 time was always displayed in 12-hour format. In 5.0 members will be able to choose to have times displayed in 12-hour or 24-hour format, e.g., 10:24 PM or 22:24.
  • Date/times will always be displayed in a member's chosen date/time format, including "Edited by" annotations that are currently displayed in the format of the member who performed the edit. This will only be true for new messages posted after the 5.0 release. I'm willing to listen to efforts to persuade me to include code that modifies old messages to fix this, but it seems a minor issue.
The portion of the new member control panel for date/times now looks like this:
