As reported by the BBC The Geological Society has found an early copy of William Smith's pioneering map of the geology of England, Wales and Scotland.
​
It's been lost in the archives for many years, sparing it the fading caused by exposure to light.
​
The maps can be seen in The Geological Society's Picture Library
