Let me give you a personal example to illustrate my concerns here. Hardly anyone I know would describe me as being from the town I was actually born inincluding my parents.

Pretty funny as I'm in the same situation. My parents traveled to a distance city for a concert and I arrived early. Literally only a birth certificate and a birth announcement in the local paper (automatically place there, not placed by my parents or relatives) connects me to the town of my birth, while there are of course many, many connections to my home town to be found (school records, dental, medical, church, etc.).

Re: try actually thinking you all
Wouldn't Obama have approved the bio that his literary agency was using for him?

Not that it means he actually was born in Kenya, but it would mean that he was willing to say that he was.

What appears to be more likely given the difficult to manufacture evidence that Obama was actually born in the US (absent a time machine), and the statements from the agent that they did not check the information with Obama?

I agree that the statement in the bio is evidence of a Kenyan birth. But is it really stronger than the evidence for US birth? What is most likely the error.

Seriously, given that the real constitutional issue almost certainly does not center around the location of Obama's birth anyway, isn't the real point to this question one of whether Obama is not 'one of us'? Isn't that exactly what your question of 'he's willing to say he was [born in Kenya?]' is getting at?

Well, just look at him. Now look at his name. We know he isn't one of us.

Okay, enough ranting.

How about if you establish the pre-requisite point first, and then I consider your misplaced impugning?

Pretty funny as I'm in the same situation.

I was born in a rinky-dink town just outside of Boston, but my permanent residence has been in VA and points south of there for a period of time adding up to about 90% of my life. My claimed home town is Atlanta. If I were to root for either the Patriots or the Boston Celtics I would rightly be considered a no good, lousy, band wagoner. I would never do any such thing.

I think birthers could have made things more difficult for Obama by talking about where he spent his formative years rather than focusing on his birth certificate. But birthers are just ignorant xenophobes pretending that their hatred is rational.

Go Hawks!!

I don't doubt that he was born in Hawaii.

and the statements from the agent that they did not check the information with Obama?

That's what I'm doubting. I don't see how you could be ignorant of the bio that your literary agency is using. If anything, you'd probably have to be supplying them with the information.

Perhaps they thought that portraying him as being from Kenya would help with his book sales?

Seriously, given that the real constitutional issue almost certainly does not center around the location of Obama's birth anyway, isn't the real point to this question one of whether Obama is not 'one of us'? Isn't that exactly what your question of 'he's willing to say he was [born in Kenya?]' is getting at?

Not at all.

How about if you establish the pre-requisite point first, and then I consider your misplaced impugning?

All the rebuttals to the literary agency stuff has been about them admitting their error. I just didn't see anyone considering that Obama would have probably been in on it.

Which would mean that he lied about it, that's all. Its not that big of a deal.

Summary of where we are on the birther issue/s
Is Obama running in the next Republican primary? Cuz, the title of this thread is about awesome Republican primaries.

This is in response to Ted Cruz running for president even though he was born in Canada of a Cuban immigrant and American mother.

The parallel to Obama is hilarious, and even birther-in-chief Donald Trump has asked for Cruz's birth certificate ...

The US Constitution says (article 2 section 1 paragraph 5):

quote:
No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

Next up we have Title 8 Chapter 12 Subchapter III Part I 1401

quote:
U.S. Code 1401 - Nationals and citizens of United States at birth

The following shall be nationals and citizens of the United States at birth:

  1. a person born outside of the United States and its outlying possessions of parents one of whom is a citizen of the United States who has been physically present in the United States or one of its outlying possessions for a continuous period of one year prior to the birth of such person, and the other of whom is a national, but not a citizen of the United States;

ie - "natural born" by virtue of being a citizen at birth (do not have to be "naturalized" to become a citizen), here by having at least one parent being a US citizen even if not born in the US.

There is also a provision that you can't have allegiance to another country, and that is why Cruz recently revoked his Canadian citizenship.

What this means is

  1. that IF Cruz is a legitimate citizen to be president, as appears to be the case, THEN Obama most certainly was\is legitimate,(1)
  2. anyone who claims Obama isn't legitimate while not saying the same for Cruz is a hypocrite,

It will be most entertaining to watch the birthers that want Cruz but hate Obama twist on this issue.

Enjoy
_________________
(1) so even if Obama was not a "natural born" citizen by virtue of being born IN the US (which he was), he still qualifies as a "natural born" citizen by virtue of having an American citizen parent (mother), and that makes him more qualified as a "natural born" citizen than Cruz ever will be ....

Ted Cruz is still out to destroy the US and today's US conservatives are simply fascist idiots.

Re: Summary of where we are on the birther issue/s
So your understanding is that even if he was born in Kenya he's qualified for the Presidency. Fine with me. There's more evidence at You Tube that that's where he was born, such as Obama himself saying that's where he's from, and Michelle calling Kenya his "home country," and a phone call from a Bishop McRae to the Obama household in Kenya in which the grandmother says yes she was present at his birth.

Here, I went and found them:

Obama saying he's from Kenya.

ABE: YES OF COURSE IT OCCURRED TO ME IT COULD HAVE BEEN FAKED, AND I'VE HEARD THAT BEFORE. BUT I JUST LISTENED TO IT THREE TIMES AND THERE IS NO POINT WHERE THE CONTINUITY OF THE SPEECH IS INTERRUPTED./ABE

Michelle Obama mentions Kenya is Barack's "home country:"

Oh, oh you poor sucker.

I don't just feel sorry for you for falling for this this one particular time ... but also because I guess I'm going to bring it up in every thread in which you participate from now on.

And you didn't think ... it didn't occur to you ... no, I guess it didn't.

As this thread is going into summation mode I have started a new thread devoted to Birthism, because why stop now, just when Faith's calling me gullible?

My summary - no concept of evidence
I'm not sure if I already blew my one post limit with a reply that was not supposed to be allowed. I guess I'll find out when I try to post this.

Recent posts in this thread have been very revealing about evidence for Faith. They give the impression that confirmation bias is the only "standard" used.

I see this as explaining a lot about all of the threads in which Faith has participated

Evidence? We don't need no stinkin evidence!
I am sorry to see this thread close. I figured it could go on and on.

The last few days Faith gave us all lessons in why discussing anything with her is so frustrating. She is absolutely, positively, always right, no matter what. Her standards of evidence are miraculous.

Scanning back through the list of participants I see quite a few that I miss reading these days; Granny Magda, Wounded King, Onifre, anglagard, Rahvin, hooah212002, Nuggin.......miss those guys.

Thanks nwr, but I already realized how old this thread was. I was just a bit surprised it hadn't been closed - as it has been now - once Faith started in on her birtherism.

I thought the last primary was a clown-car full of blowhards, but 2016 is gearing up to be a regular stretch limo filled with rejects from the last circus that pulled into town.

Should be fun!
