Re: General Update
Asgara writes:
Just thought I'd give everyone a quick update.
I've gone through 6 of 12 chemo treatments and just got back from my 2nd trip to Mayo. I have a thoracic wedge resection on my left lung scheduled for Monday June 16th.
Chemo has been working; my CEA marker is down to 6 again after a high of 18 on my last trip to Mayo and my lung spots are showing shrinkage.
I get to be a part of two data gathering studies that I will explain if any one is interested.
Here's to hoping the resection works and the follow up chemo clears out anything that's left. Please cross the pertinent appendages and swing the appropriate barnyard fowl.
Just checking up on you...this was your last post before todays with xongsmith...so how are you doing today? I often see your name in the online list but have not talked with you in years---back when old jar jar sat up in the chatroom.

Re: incredible
Thanks to you for being alive and part of our extended family as well. I cannot imagine how it is to battle cancer. My father left us at age 59 when I was but 17 years old. He lives on in my thoughts and memories---and my faith promises me that he is still alive in one form or another.
Asgara writes:
I've been here in one form or another for 12 years.
Indeed you have. I have seen your name up on that list even though rarely hearing from you. Family is like that. We often take each other for granted, but we do cherish the presence of one another in this life and, hopefully for all eternity. Though our hope lives on eternally through our children, grandchildren, and extended family, we each have hope for ourselves, our legacy and purpose in the life we live now. So...to get personal if i may, what is it within you that causes you to fight, even when you are weary and longing for sleep and inner peace? Is it more than family and extended family?
I'm currently sitting at another crossroads in my cancer journey.
Do you see it as a cancer journey or do you see it as an overall journey that transcends cancer, pain, and struggle....I was never really impressed to bring you up in my prayers until now...after seeing your sweet picture and realizing just how alive and valuable you are!
Any way I could conceivably say thanks will never be enough, but I will say it... THANK YOU ALL!
It is we who also thank you! Thank you for being alive! Thank you for being among us...we also thank the amazing people who care for you professionally and who also live their lives to the fullest and the utmost. You represent the triumph of life...you represent hope...and I am grateful to be able to talk with you---even on an anonymous internet...which suddenly seems more personal than it has been previously.
add by edit: I am off work today...watching movies...I just watched Lincoln with Danial day Lewis...it was a well done flick. Also bought Cowboys & Aliens...an odd one but I love watching actors and actresses celebrate human life through their craft and art!

I want to help you beat that record! Feel free to say hello to me on FB anytime.
None of us ever know how many days, weeks or years we will live, but we CAN focus on quality rather than simply quantity. Do you ever have any volunteers from the community come and visit you? I have a question for you. What traits do you respect and value the most in a true empathetic and useful volunteer?

The fact that you have such a strong mental attitude will carry you a long way as well.
Asgara has always been no nonsense, and I have always respected her for this, even though her and jar always challenged the dogma that religion taught me. She seems to be a sweet yet feisty soul from what I perceive of her on the internet.
Asgara I messaged you on Facebook, though I understand if you are busy or tired today. I hope and pray that you stay with us a long time and that you meet your goals and make more of them.
I would be scared to death of facing some of the challenges you have and realize that religion does not help in these things. Its all about character and you are a unique one.

In Loving Memory Of An Eternal Cancer Survivor
Perdition, please feel free to lurk and visit us occasionally. Your Mother was very special here at EvC...I have recently been reading posts she made in 2003, before I was even here! She is an eternal cancer survivor in my mind. No matter whether one is a believer or a non-believer, we can all agree that her loving memory, her warm smile, and her optimism will live on eternally through her sons, daughters, and granddaughters.
Our prayers and warm thoughts are with you and your family as well as extended family.

Re: Update - some good some bad
Take the fight slow and steady. Plan on being realistically optimistic. You have fought this fight before and science knows more about your opponent every day. You seem to be living life to the fullest and that is more than can be said of many people. You helped me with advice on my addiction, and I pulled out of a steep dive and now am on Day 70 of recovery! I hope to see you reclaim that lost ground and send this opponent packing once and for all!
Balance is the key for me. I dont look at each day simply as a fight but as an opportunity to enjoy life while I fight. Gotta get healthy so you can hike some more and fix some more mini's!

Re: Getting settled at home, or not
I cannot imagine how frustrated you must feel at times. I know that you are a fighter and are more than ready to fight once again, but some days can be so frustrating just getting ready to fight properly. I appreciate your contributions and observations here at EvC, but I understand if I don't hear from you for awhile---your life is so blessed and full apart from here and I will keep you in prayer as you again face the dragons while enjoying the sunsets and sunrises.
I go see my Doctor today, and while I don't always listen to everything she suggests, I do respect her education regarding the understanding of my disease and I trust that you also have some good Doctors on your team. #TEAMRAZD

Fighting The Good Fight
I noticed that you have been posting frequently lately, which sounds like good news regarding your overall health. Are you back on track after Spring and Summer?
And I hope that that dreaded Roundup did not affect you. Too many toxic chemicals in our world today!

And We Hope To Talk For Many More Years
Do they have a better prognosis for #4? I know that thoughts and prayers is a lame cliche, but if I send positive thoughts your way, it will also help me take my mind off of myself. Hopefully, you can gain some time. ( I've really respected your encouragement and detailed topics throughout the EvC years, and I always believe that a eulogy should be given to a fellow while they are alive to hear it. Many Lurkers & Trolls benefitted from your wisdom. I've never seen you be mean to anyone, especially me. You have carried yourself well.
We won't give up just yet. You have a few things left to do and experience. Also, may God Bless your Angel!! She is likely stressed out by all of this as well, as is your family and extended family here. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we all appreciate you and want to do what we can to help you. We love you, RAZD. We all will travel the same road that you are on and hopefully encourage others as you have done for us. Be at peace and do your best! It's amazing what some fighters can accomplish in the final rounds!
I would be grateful to even be half as strong as you have been. We look forward to more inspiration from you...but get plenty of rest first.

Re: Update - intermission
RAZD writes:
My current treatment involves two therapies, one a pill I take at home the other an infusion done at hospital.
The pill I take one a day for 21 days, then 7 days off (the intermission), then repeat. It hammers me, and by day 21 I have almost no energy to do much more than read small bits.
Time sure flies! Here it is the end of March, nearly April. What phase of the 21 day/7 day cycle are you in? If you dont answer or if your answer is brief, I will have an idea, but why not rate your strength on a scale of 1 (weak) to 10 (strong) so we know. The weaker you are, the more we will pick up the slack. You are a member of TEAM EvC and we are in a giant game of tug of war. If you tell us how you feel, we will know how hard we must pull.
We know that we must win, for this is no mere game. Love ya, RAZD,

Re: Calling all survivors
Baby steps.
Though not as health-challenged as you (you are inspiring, by the way) I find that at age 60, with sleep apnea, diabetes, and complications beginning to take their toll on my body that I have to keep fighting and planning on getting stronger.
Doctors and medical science have taught me a lot, but I study different theories and seem convinced that the Low Carb approach is the best way to fight this diabetes thing. Of course, we discussed this two years ago...and if anything I'm more battle-scarred and weary than I was two, five, ten, and twenty years ago. But the reality is that the present is all that I have to work with.
I now know that family is more important than I ever thought it was. It's not just about me... it's about them and my importance to them. My faith, if anything, is stronger yet still stubborn...as you may note in my other recent topics. I don't have the internal strength to be a Deist, nevermind a Rebel American Zen one!
But I never let religion or lack of religion fully define people. Nor do I value them based on their weaknesses and "demons". It is always a learning process.
Did you ever do a Belief Statement back in the earlier days of EvC? Let me look... ahhhh here it is!

Re: Calling all survivors
I found the belief Statement. IIRC, you have never claimed atheism and preferred Deism ala Spinoza, If I remember correctly. Have your battles and journies with loved ones and battling cancer caused you to re-examine your beliefs in any way? If so, it would be nic to share a bit. If not, it's ok... you are honest and true to your world view. And I'm proud to know you.
