Re: Responsibility vs The Easy Path
Again Phat, stop misrepresenting what I post. I make few claims that I do not also support with reasoned arguments or point out that it is a matter of my beliefs and may well be wrong.
And in the thread you used as a supporting link, I point out that there really doesn't seem to be any possible definition of Christianity that goes beyond self identification or membership in one of the Chapters of Club Christian.
Phat writes:
You claim that Jesus died for everyone, including atheists.
I seriously doubt you can find anywhere that I made such a claim or even where I claim that Jesus died for anyone. In fact I have said repeatedly that Jesus death was inevitable if Jesus was born and that Jesus death was not even unusual since at least two others died the same way on the same day and in the same place.
Phat writes:
You also claim that in order for anything to make sense about GOD, Jesus while among us was only human.
Again, that is NOT what I say. I say that for Christianity to make sense as something different than the Greek or Roman theology as an example, Jesus must have been only human while living with us.
Phat writes:
In summation, my idea and belief about Christianity is about a knowable God who desires to commune with humanity, whereas your idea is about humanity only needing a basic charge and responsibility to do unto others...while God is unknowable and largely unimportant in daily life.
Stop misrepresenting what I say Phat.
You claim that you know god and commune with god and I ask "How do you know that it is god you are communing with?" and you never answer.
Phat writes:
As far as God can do something a human cannot, I can only say that such a question is ridiculous at best.
So you say that you can do anything that god can do?

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Re: Responsibility vs The Easy Path
Phat writes:
Chambers describes it thus:
quote:
Have you been asking God what He is going to do? He will never tell you. God does not tell you what He is going to do He reveals to you who He is. Do you believe in a miracle-working God, and will you go out in complete surrender to Him until you are not surprised one iota by anything He does?
I can understand the first two sentences. Then it all is just word salad with absolutely no meaning.
"God does not tell you what He is going to do ... " Agreed! God does not tell you what She is going to do.
"... He reveals to you who He is." Nonsense. How does God reveal who He is and why are there so many different and mutually exclusive contradictory revelations of who It is?
Why is the God revealed in Genesis 1 entirely different than the God revealed in Genesis 2&3 or the God revealed in Exodus?
Phat writes:
Perhaps you feel and believe that doing your best every day is as close as you can get to communion. Your analytical mind has never understood communion and I for one dont understand it enough to explain it to you. I am still learning Who He Is.
But nothing in the balance of that post has anything to do with communion or provide anything other than confirmation of bias.

Phat writes:
Though I agree with your assessment of the fact that there are always many different and mutually exclusive and contradictory revelations or descriptions of God, i would also argue that there are many similar descriptions. From my own personal experience, I can usually intuitively discern who has actually spent a lot of time praying and questioning God rather than simply parroting what the evangelical industrial complex touts as the party line. You often ask me how I know it is God and not simply a bad burrito. My answer is that strictly speaking, I wouldnt have any concrete evidence apart from the fact that if it were a bad burrito, many people would have suffered similar food poisoning regarding their descriptions, actions, and explanations regarding the God whom they market.
All of the evidence shows that many people would have suffered similar food poisoning regarding their descriptions, actions, and explanations regarding the God whom they market.

Re: Discernment Ministry
Sorry but the The Discernment Ministry is nothing but a "Not My Cult" cult.

Re: Discernment Ministry
Yes, I followed your link and also have watched the advent of Discernment Ministries over time. It is simply more apologetics, evangelical fundamentalist and yes, part of the Christian Cult of Ignorance. What you need to ask is whether or not the same mob psychology is not also the core of "solid fillintheblank thology".
The issue is the position that all other positions are wrong but my "fillintheblank" position is right.
Humans create religions. They are totally human.
They may be valid as a path but that depends on the one doing the journey. Other folk may well follow some other equally valid path.
The problem is not whether some path follows fillintheblank theology but whether the path leads to anything worthwhile or to damage and destruction. Does the path make life better for the least of these.
Look at the basic definition of what makes a cult to the followers of Discernment Ministries.
quote:
By cultism we mean the adherence to doctrines which are pointedly contradictory to orthodox Christianity and which yet claim the distinction of either tracing their origin to orthodox sources or of being in essential harmony with those sources. Cultism, in short, is any major deviation from orthodox Christianity relative to the cardinal doctrines of the Christian faith.
Look at it. Look closely at it.
Where is the emphasis; on dogma or doing?
GOATS!

Re: Castrates
That's a great example of how the Christian Cult of Ignorance perverts the Bible by taking quote mined passages and proof texts out of context. It is classic apologist dishonesty.
Go back and read all of 1 Cor 3 to see the passage in context and see that in fact Paul is condemning the very practice exemplified by AlexCaledin and Evangelical Christianity itself.

It must be convenient for you to be your own judge. Isnt it nice to wipe away all of your own sins?
There you go talking bullshit again and bullshit that you and I have covered many, many times.
As a Christian I believe I will someday be judged by God.
But that has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that humans love to make up sins as much as making up Gods.
An honest person will admit that he or she has no idea what is or is not a sim --> sin or whether they will be judged and condemned or pardoned. But selling the Christian "Jesus paid for your sins" is without a doubt one of the most successful conjobs ever created by mankind.
Humans do create moral standards and also legality but sin has absolutely nothing to do with either the concept of morality or legality.
