I'm soliciting information about and experiences with alertness drugs (Modafinil, Nuvigil, Profigil, etc.), sometimes referred to as smart drugs, but usually prescribed for people with alertness or sleep disorder issues.

I assume you've found the accounts that can be gathered off of the internet. There are quite a few first hand accounts out there. In addition, a few searches on Google scholar turns up lots of research on smart drugs. I used the search term nootropics on scholar, but there may be better terms to use.
I have nothing personal to add. It's only been 12 hours, maybe someone else will jump in.

Yeah, I looked around the first-hand accounts on the Internet, but I found that without any experience with a person that I couldn't gauge their credibility. I know the people here, plus we have an abundance of scientifically minded people.

Supplements
Ive esperimented with supplements...but not drugs.
The ones I have used are L-Glutamine(crosses blood/brain barrier and causes more vivid and lucid dreams. it is a fuel for the brain.
L-Carnitine-(also Acytyl L Carnitine) which shuttle energy into the mitochondria.
