Re: Paul Kanter, Cofounder of Jefferson Airplane
Oh, yes! Kanter and Gracie Slick!
One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small,
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all.
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall.
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall,
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call.
Call Alice
When she was just small.
When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low.
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know.
When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead,
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the dormouse said:
"Feed your head. Feed your head."

Remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird
Nelle Harper Lee died Feb 19, 2016.
She penned one of the most beloved novels of all time.
First published in 1960 her novel helped enlighten and change the racial views of a nation.
She was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1961 and To Kill a Mockingbird was named "Best Novel of the Century" in a poll by the Library Journal in 1999.
quote:
You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view . . . until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.
When they finally saw him, why he hadn’t done any of those things . . . Atticus, he was real nice. . . . His hands were under my chin, pulling up the cover, tucking it around me. Most people are, Scout, when you finally see them.

Nancy doesn't make the cut.
Putting politics aside, she seemed like a nice enough lady

She had her idiocyracies.. But I don't see anything she did that was mean. She had a long and privileged life, and I hope her passing was without too much pain.

Nancy Reagan: 1921 - 2016
From the New York Times:
quote:
Mrs. Reagan was a fierce guardian of her husband’s image, sometimes at the expense of her own, and during Mr. Reagan’s improbable climb from a Hollywood acting career to the governorship of California and ultimately the White House, she was a trusted adviser.
...
Mrs. Reagan was a trusted adviser to her husband, President Ronald Reagan, and a fierce guardian of his image. She championed efforts to fight drug abuse and Alzheimer’s disease.
Retrospective from today's NYT: Nancy Reagan, the Happiest First Lady
--Percy
PS: As was said way back in Message 271, maybe the tribute thread can be used for tributes, and if someone wants to discuss how horrible were Thatcher and Reagan they can open a thread over at Coffee House.

This band that God's building from our biggest and best is almost worth becoming a believer for.

Je suis Charlie. Je suis Ahmed. Je suis Juif. Je suis Parisien.
Life, don't talk to me about life - Marvin the Paranoid Android
"Science adjusts it's views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation so that Belief can be preserved."
