I would hope the Senate Republicans would do their job & vote one way or the other on an Obama nomination.
My jaded opinion is that they will stall and just make points with their political base. With a bunch of crap about "it should be the next president's choice" when they really mean "we're stalling for cash and hoping for a Republican president cuz we don't care about doing the public's business"
"Give me money so I can be re-elected to fight the evil liberal nominee."
Two political calculations
What would move an un-decided or lightly decided from one side to the other? Assuming of course that the target audience will actually vote.
What gets me the most campaign money? Or my opponent the least? Just to make it more fun - how extreme do I get for the primary and how centrist for the general election?

Interesting Time Line
Here is an interesting time line.
Scalia’s Supreme Court Seat Has Been Vacant For More Than 400 Days - The New York Times
According to data compiled by NY Times, the Senate has done something, even if it's just a filibuster, when a nomination has occurred during an election year.
George Washington nominated and had approved two new justices to court during his last year in office.
Even John Tyler, constantly opposed by the Senate during his tenure, was able to get multiple candidates voted on (admittedly rejected). At least that Senate would make a stand on something.
According to Wikipedia, Tyler actually nominated and had confirmed a Justice with less than a month left in his term. This happened in February - AFTER the election.
Andrew Jackson nominated a Justice on his LAST FULL DAY IN OFFICE and that Justice was approved.
Another post-election nomination was by Martin Van Buren
Wikipedia
Van Buren nominated Daniel during his last week as president, and Daniel was appointed as a Justice before his predecessor was even buried.
Rutherford Hayes and Benjamin Harrison both successfully nominated a Justice after the election.
If the Senate needs a precedent to do their job, here's a few. Geez, at least vote the nomination down.

Re: Obama Announces Nomination for Scalia's Replacement
Whenever I hear the republicans talk about waiting for the election so the voters can have a voice, I wonder if they really thought it through.
Since this year is an election year, waiting for the voters to speak applies to all positions up for election doesn't it?
So none of the 24 Republican (and 10 Democrat) Senators up for election should vote on anything this year.
The entire House of Representatives should sit out the year since the voters haven't spoken yet.
The President should pocket veto everything anyways since he has to wait for the voters to speak.
We have to wait until after the election AND the new people in office. No lame duck votes.
Hey, this could help the budget. Since we're waiting for the voters to speak and these people are just sitting around, let's stop paying them. Send them & their staffs home.
On the other hand, I'm pretty sure the voters know that the election results stand for the entire term of office.
What a stupid stupid argument.
