The geological range of the tapeats / redwall
So here is a snippet from Geological Survey Professional Paper, Volume 669 (pulled up via a "Tapeats Sandstone England" Google books search)
It talks about these formations "correlating" with certain formations in England. I'm wondering what that term means in this context ... temporally?

Re: The geological range of the tapeats / redwall
Snelling does talk about rapid deposition in the sentence right after what I quoted -- I cut it out because my question was only regarding the range portion of the paragraph.
The entire paragraph follows, including the rapid deposition sentence:
quote:
We find rock layers that can be traced all the way across continentseven between continentsand physical features in those strata indicate they were deposited rapidly. For example, the Tapeats Sandstone and Redwall Limestone of Grand Canyon can be traced across the entire United States, up into Canada, and even across the Atlantic Ocean to England. The chalk beds of England (the white cliffs of Dover) can be traced across Europe into the Middle East and are also found in the Midwest of the United States and in Western Australia. Inclined (sloping) layers within the Coconino Sandstone of Grand Canyon are testimony to 10,000 cubic miles of sand being deposited by huge water currents within days.

Here is another statement about 'range' that interests me:
http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/creation-conference.html
quote:
[Ian] Taylor said that the `White Cliffs of Dover' deposit actually extends from Ireland through England, France, Germany, India, Sumatra and into Australia. This is incontrovertible evidence for a worldwide flood, he said.

Thanks JohF.
I didn't know you hung out over at TR. A few years back some silly work of mine resulted in the largest and longest TR science thread ever (DDWFTTW).

Bristlecone pine question.
I'm struggling with a small detail in my research on the history of dendrochronology as it relates to the White Mountain Bristlecone pines.
Wikepedia lists the Pinus longaeva and the Pinus aristata as two distinct species with two distinct ranges (with little to no range overlap).
Bristlecone pine - Wikipedia
This Forest Service link lists Pinus aristata as a "synonym" to the Pinus longaeva.
http://www.fs.fed.us/...ase/feis/plants/tree/pinlon/all.html
While this link specifically lists the ancient grove species as Pinus aristata.
Just a moment...
What gives?
This is an important detail for me to sort out since Lammerts (in his oft quoted and bullshit multiple ring per year "study") says he used the Colorado species (see below)
quote:
Seed of the Colorado strain of the bristlecone pine was purchased from the Clyde Robin Seed Co., Inc., and planted March 9, 1978. By way of explanation, because of park restrictions it is practically impossible to get seed of the trees growing in the White Mountain area. However, botanically speaking, the trees growing in California and in Colorado are all considered to be the same species.
If the longaeva an the aristata are distinct species as per the Wiki with a non-overlapping range, how can the the Ancient Grove be aristata?
Thanks
JB

Re: Bristlecone pine question.
And your position would be consistent with the Wiki -- but inconsistent with the Forest Service link and the Sciencemag link.
It is this discrepancy that I am trying to reconcile.
Thanks
JB

Re: Bristlecone pine question.
Thanks PaulK. That may well be the answer.
Perhaps RAZD has some good historical info on this.

CRSQ article sought
"Tree-ring dating and multiple ring growth per year' Aardsma. CRSQ 29, Spring. pages 184189.
Tried my local library online journal access. No luck.
Any assistance appreciated.

Re: CRSQ article sought
Thanks. I've seen the abstract -- just trying to not spend eight bucks for a hard copy of the article (it's not the $8 bucks that bothers me but who I would have to send it to)
Even tried to get Aardsma himself to send me the text -- no luck.

Re: CRSQ article sought
I promise you I couldn't give two craps for his theories.
As often is the case for my requests for literature, I'm only interested in the article to refute claim of what YEC family says is in the article that I believe is not in the article.
The quickest way for me to show that YEC folk lie about what is in an article is to produce the article and show the lies.

Re: CRSQ article sought
My small town library in Georgia only had access to this database and it didn't contain any of the CRS quarterlies:
GALILEO Search
I will next go up the Tennessee direction to a larger library and try your WorldCat suggestion.
Thanks

Facebook series on Dendro
I belong to a FB group called "SDA Fight Club" where Seventh Day Adventists and Ex SDAs mingle and discuss topics that are typically controversial between the two groups (non-SDAs are allowed, but the topics tend to be SDA related).
With knowledge I've learned here on EVC (thanks everyone) and other places, I've been for a while now putting up a fair bit of material from the science world working towards educating members on both the pretend SDA science and the actual science science.
Following are the links to a 4 part series I just completed on reference dendrochronologies. So many here have helped me on this topic that I thought I would share. Also I know if I got something wrong this crew will correct me.
Thanks
