It's rather that you have BECOME PC with that statement, since hating God has become extremely popular in recent years, THE reason we ARE under His judgment.

No. I've been brought up to respect my seniors by default but your comments about end times and basically looking forward to horrors is just nauseating.
There are some Christians who are very nice people and many who are nice but unfortunately many are just disgrace to humanity. Anyone enjoying the story of the Flood or hoping for the world to end belongs to the latter...

No one so far has said they hate God Faith; and hate is really the wrong word anyway. Many find the God you market disgusting, pitiful, evil, only worthy of being disparaged and opposed even if it were real.
But it is certainly not significant enough to engender hate.
Now it certainly is reasonable though to fear those folk who try to market such a god.
The point in this thread though is that the so called news in the OP is not news to anyone who has not been willfully ignorant for decades.

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Ffs. You say that the loss of effectiveness of antibiotics is a sign of god's judgement and the end of times is on us. I point out that in fact, everything is improving and you say that's god's blessing.
So you argue in each direction simultaneously without the slightest embarassment. It's a real talent.

That is just about the most obnoxious thing anyone can think. How about the fact that the countries that are the least religious are also in many respect the most prosperous and happiest?

Re: Yup, us wackos and bigots see some heavy stuff coming
"Being religious" isn't how you get God's blessings. There are plenty of nonChristians who intuitively obey God's Law. But if you are thinking of FORMERLY Christian nations that have become paganized just as we have, then their blessings are continuing even while they are probably accumulating judgment.

We are pagan nation (using your vocabulary) that was for a while under Christian "rule" brought by the sword. On a whole, what a lovely way of thinking drooling over an impending judgment...

Re: Yup, us wackos and bigots see some heavy stuff coming
And don't forget rapid late tectonics which generated 1000's more earthquakes in the past... we are in a period of quiet.
But seriously, although you "yawn" at this news, it IS very serious. Antibiotic resistance is developing at a much faster pace than new classes of antibiotics are being developed. It is very scary. My Grandfather died of a MRSA infection and the problem is only escalating. Microbes are even developing resistance to compounds that were once thought to have no risk of resistance - such as silver (do no use silver infused clothing products by the way as the silver leaches into the environment and is leading to resistance).
The resistance gene reported in this article is on a plasmid so it can easily be spread by horizontal gene transfer. Fortunately, this particular microbe is still susceptible to other antibacterials. But transfer this resistance gene into an organism with resistance to other antibacterials and there will be deaths.
Only 2 new classes of antimicrobials have been marketed in the last 50 years! Most of the R&D has been spent on developing analogues. Our development on new classes of antimicrobials needs to increase 10 fold over the next couple of decades in order to stay ahead of developing resistance.
Novel classes of antimicrobials or more of the same?
This is not to say that the OP was not overly sensational and that Faith's position is not ridiculous.

Re: What To Focus On As A Nation
Because it is so big of an issue that the mainstream media (almost) silence is deafening.
Like climate change, scientists have been warning that microbes are evolving faster than new anti-biotics can be developed for decades now. MRSA has been with us since the 60's. We saw vancomycin get defeated by some strains in 2002.
I hear about MRSA outbreaks, along with the usual discussion about overuse of antibiotics for some time here in the UK.
If it isn't discussed much in American media I can only imagine they are worried about a large demographic of their audience being upset about evolution being discussed.

Here was the print text I first read.
There were some issues in this thread brought up, but to say people's eyes, I will just respond without quotations and post # references.
I'll start with the actual article I physically read, hours before my post, in paper & ink.
quote:
For the first time, researchers have found a person in the United States carrying bacteria resistant to antibiotics of last resort, an alarming development that the top U.S. public health official says could mean the end of the road for antibiotics.
The antibiotic-resistant strain was found last month in the urine of a 49-year-old Pennsylvania woman. Defense Department researchers determined that she carried a strain of E. coli resistant to the antibiotic colistin, according to a study published Thursday in Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, a publication of the American Society for Microbiology. The authors wrote that the discovery heralds the emergence of a truly pan-drug resistant bacteria.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/...ading-just-reached-the-u-s
I remember the Economist, in 2014, talked about how this would set us back to the 1920s.
Also.
People have mentioned MRSA in this thread, and I have some horror stories (including lost teenage lives, my own personnel infection which resulted in me darn-near loosing a finger and gulf ball size infections on my lower butt/upper thigh) for sure, but there were antibiotics for it.
Then.
Faith talks about the good old days, but the dirty little secret is that there were no good old days. Be born in a year as recent as 1900 and your life expectancy was about 48. For blacks (which I am not), it was 32 in the good old USA. It wasn't like they weren't the biggest fundamentalists one can imagine. They were. Those were the good old wholesome days. The people claimed to be "biblical" in their thoughts and actions. Franklin Graham was just in Lincoln a week ago or so. He talked about what a disturbing and ruinous turn of events that social change was bringing. He cited homosexuality and rights as a very deep concern of his and one that would bring God's judgment on the nation.
Anyway, his (very popular)dad opposed the 1960s change and civil rights for blacks and Jews. He felt that Jews were fighting too successfully for all kinds of rights and social change. Nixon agreed with him, as the released tapes show, that the large percentages of Jewish journalists/media folk were undermining, if not destroying, the country.
Now gays are (among) the target(s) of choice.
But, they don't spread HPV, which kills more Americans per year than HIV, as much as heterosexuals do. HIV cases, in the 1980s, used to be "proof" that God was judging gays in a proportionate manner representative of God's amount of relative anger. Now only 5,000 HIV deaths per year (with gays less than 50%), and a growing number of HPV (cancer)deaths totaling around 7,000 to 10,000 a year in the USA. Who would have thought that cervical cancer was a sexually transmitted disease (97% of cases anyway)? It's females, and generally straight ones too who die. The growing number of throat cancer (or head and neck) HPV cases are mostly straight men.
Is the HIV is "God's judgment of gays" obsession over now? Am I beating yesterday's horse? The small HIV death totals put that one out of style I suppose. I will never forget the 1980's obsession because it is instructive of (so-called) fundamentalist Christians kicking people while they are at their lowest point, and I think it was inspired by hatred and not a genuine concern for those suffering. It was opportunistic and hateful, not to mention hurtful to loved ones who lost people they held very dear to their hearts.

"To the bacteria." Do you know the biology of this or not? Antibiotic-resistant bacteria have been around for a long time, and have claimed U.S. lives for a long time.
But the kicker is that the bacteria (of all types) are building some dangerous steam.
Here is the CDC director.
quote:
"We risk being in a post antibiotic world," Frieden said before telling audience members about the mcr-1 finding. "That wouldn't just be for infections that you think of as bad infections, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, that's bad enough. That could be for the 600,000 Americans a year who need cancer treatment for whom we just assume we'll be able to treat infections. We may lose that ability."
What You Need to Know About the Antibiotic-Resistant Superbug That Just Arrived in the US
This is something that is on the increase. Surely over 1 million die a year due to antibiotic resistant bacteria and it could get monumentally worse.
10 million per year equals 100 million per decade, or 700 million over the average lifespan of earth-folk in 2050. Almost 10% will die due to the issue raised in my OP.

So anything pagan Americans do, like find cures for the bad stuff that god made because of his displeasure in pagan Americans, is actually his blessings on pagan Americans. Gottit.
It does seem a bit odd that the pagan Americans that can afford to pay for the cures are blessed, whilst the poor in developing countries are still suffering and dying from his displeasure. But I'm sure you have a perfectly coherant explanation.
But I'm a bit confused - is it end times or not?

Most deadly superbug (60% die) infected 122 this year (6 in 2016), 3/4 in NY City.
Betsy McCaughey is chairman of the Committee to Reduce Infection Deaths
hospital-infection.org
Her latest New York Post article is Why Deadly Superbugs Are Winning
I have gotten into a habit of tearing out her articles from my paper, this one is from May, 24 2017.
It is about the awful fungus, Candida auris.
This is the worst news yet, but I need to find the article from a few weeks ago as it was just about as terrifying as they come.
Check out her articles on the NYP archives.
I find it so amazing that the same publication that obsesses so much over the tiny number of terrorism induced deaths, over the years, also gives this lady such a prominent opinion box. From totally insignificant (the terrorist attacks ) to existentially & vitally concerning (superbugs ) .
Perspective is a ghost among American journalism.
Except Betsy McCaughey.

I would suggest some perspective on the whole issue. For 200,000 years humans fought back against infections without any effective treatments. We seemed to have made it through in one piece.
I have personally worked with antibiotics that are still very effective against MRSA, and other pathogens such as Group A Strep (i.e. flesh eating bacteria) are still very sensitive to most of the classic antibiotics in almost all cases (e.g. penicillin, clindamycin). In fact, I will be at a massive conference next week on these very topics, so maybe I can bring back some updates for you.
I'm not saying that we shouldn't worry about antibiotic resistance in common human pathogens, but it isn't the Apocalypse either.
