In actuality area was used as a ... well... oops. On the internet, you are only wrong when you give up. "In actuality, area was used as a proxy for volume because the most important quantity is the depth and width of access for your finger tips. The remaining dimension is of lesser importance" Or some such face saving remark... Then throw in some more BS math and voila. You are right again! I can almost reach behind the bookcase now, but I keep being afraid of doing something wrong because I don't really understand why I have to take this cord out of the jack and put it in the back of the modem. Is your phone plugged into that jack? Can you not just get a new cord and plug it into the modem and into your phone? The internet technician told me I had to remove the white cord from the jack and put it in the back of the modem. I probably shouldn't question the guy at all but if I do something wrong it's a major hassle for me. Getting a new cord, ha ha. I don't go anywhere these days. I hear ya. The internet guy's advice seems correct to me. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. So which do you already have and which are you missing? She said that her internet is working but her phone is not. I don't believe that to be correct. The wall is the old connection. Now she has a new connection from somewhere else to a modem from her service provider. Her new phone connection is from the modem.
ABE: Or possibly to a splitter that serves the modem. But the old connection clearly does not work anymore. Edited by NoNukes, : No reason given. Edited by NoNukes, : No reason given. What would help is if someone could explain how I could have a connection to phone service without the wall jack. As simply as possible please As I understand it, you have DSL service. This means that your internet and phone are brought in to your house on a single line. Inside your house your service is split off between phone and internet. We know that has happened because you are currently on the internet. Exactly how you make your phone connection depends on your hardware. But if you look on the back of your modem and see a phone connection, that means that your set up is to connect your phone to your modem. The splitting hardware must be built into your modem. Your old wall plug brought in just phone service. But apparently that connection is no longer working. Otherwise your phone would be on right now. ABE: Not my business of course, but I think it was pretty poor service for your installer to have left your house while your phone was not working. At the very minimum he should have connected up to whatever point you are supposed to plug your phone into to make sure the connection works. If you want I'll send Dr. Adequate around to kick his butt. Edited by NoNukes, : No reason given. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Can't call them because I don't have a phone. Maybe I could get someone else to call them. Grrr... Totally unsat and uncaring service in my opinion. I'd be happy to call them, but that would require you providing me with personal info. Can you get your brother to do it? This must be a wireless modem. That would explain its not needing a wall jack. Surely there is a wired connection brought into your house at some point. Because phone signals are not carried over wifi. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Microsoft have been pushing Windows 19 as a "recommended update' which means that it will install itself automatically in most computers - you have to actively work to stop it. A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft changed one those installation reminder popups so that there was no, non subtle way to avoid granting permission to install Windows 10. In fact, closing on the little "X" in the upper window also scheduled an installation. A few days later after receiving numerous complaints and after a bunch of bad press, Microsoft backed off and changed the popup to something more reasonable. Nor can I run grep anymore, since my 64-bit machine rejected it. There is a new command-line with its own complex syntax, but my experiments with it revealed the same problems of not finding a file that's standing there right in front of it. Grep is pretty much limited to finding files with text in them. Have you tried using the unix version of find? Are there really no versions of grep or find that works with windows? Have you tried the Cygwin version of those tools? There web site claims compatibility with all current 32 and 64 bit version of windows. I'm not using a 32 bit system, so I cannot verify that those tools will for for you. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. There may be a solution. I cannot judge if this is too complicated for you.
If you type control-alt-delete, you should get a screen that allows you to bring up the task manager. From there you can find the process that is running your browser and you can shut it down. You may have to shut down multiple copies of Edge or Internet Explorer if you have multiple windows open. Other than that, you can shut down your computer and restart it. ABE: Just noticed that you said that the page returns when you restart. That means you have a more complex problem than I addressed. Sorry about that. Edited by NoNukes, : No reason given.
