Still, guns have a useful purpose.
I don't agree. Their purpose is not useful per se. They are for killing others and at best act as a deterrent. However they were never designed to be deterrents.

Well I don't know what you are trying to say, but it seems to be that you just don't like the useful purposes that handguns do have.
Could be that I cannot communicate my thoughts clearly enough. Anyway, I do not see any useful purpose for a handgun like for example a wheelbarrow or an axe have. Handguns are not useful in hunting either so if their sole reason of existence is to kill others handily then that is not a useful purpose in my book.
In my "business" handguns are an unfortunate, necessary evil. I just about loath the glorifying of guns and accept them as tools since they are what we got.

They're great tools, for their purpose. That means they're useful.
You simply cannot deny that handguns have useful purpose.
Now were slipping into semantics. I refuse to accept that killing or maiming someone is a useful purpose. Purpose altogether, yes.

Re: Keystone Cops
More than ever I'm glad that in my country handguns are not as commonplace. While I won't discuss police tactics, storming into people's homes is not something we do - just about at all. (swatting is not an issue either because of that)
Can you imagine that last year police used gun less than 40 times and that includes threatening with it!! In 2014 police fired a gun SIX times altogether.

Re: Arm Everyone
How about the fact that this year has gone for 274 days and there's been 294 mass-shootings in the US.
I know that getting rid of guns is impossible but how about stopping the glorification of firearms - making them less appealing. Baby steps...

Re: The Culture of Gun Fetishism
As a parent I am just heartbroken. It is just incomprehensible how you (I am deliberately generalizing) love guns more than you love your children.
11-year-old charged with murder in Tennessee 8-year-old's death - CBS News
No child should ever come across a firearm - living childhood without shooting anyone or anything is a real possibility and what Ive seen from my own kids, they do not suffer from it.
Donald Trump probably thinks that if the puppy had been armed, this tragedy couldve been avoided...
Honestly I cannot conceive the reasoning that introducing more and more guns would be a solution. The only thing that might be a solution to is to the cash-flow of gun manufacturers.

Re: The Culture of Gun Fetishism
You do know that we are situated next to an unpredictable country, Russia?
It is just silly to think that pistols or rifles had any role in modern warfare.
What is just idiotic is the proposal that more guns were to have a beneficial effect on having less people killed in shootings. Even more so is introducing pink "My first rifles" to little girls - just about evil I'd say. The piece of news I linked made me just sad and angry - if the shotgun hadn't been available the little girl was still alive. There's no sugar-coating there.

Re: Gun Owners: Does the NRA speak for you?
because what bothers gun owners the most is being identified by potential enemies.
Who exactly would be the enemies of a civilian purchasing a gun?

Another tragedy
Please, for love of anything good, do something to stop these kind of horrors happening. A hyperbole perhaps but you just don't have these kind of gun-related deaths ANYWHERE else.

Re: Worst Mass Shooting in U.S. History
I have never ever understood the rationale behind the thought that evyone should be armed to fight back. If at this club all had carried, whod be the bad guy in the eyes of the police officers?
Another thing I cannot comprehend is why should you be able to buy an AR-15?
