Re: Eye Of Newt
right now I suppose we can blame the Democrats. Arnt both parties responsible for increasing the national debt, however?
Actually, the real explosions of our debt occurred primarily under two administrations: Reagan and Bush 2.0.
Yes, both sides contributed, but those two did the most damage.
And i also wonder whether Ryan, Trump and company will push for cutting government services in the interest of paying the debt bill?
Cut what? The three main programs that cost the country the most are Social Security, Medicare, and the Military. And they have already said they want to increase military spending.
I never voted for Trump, but since the Republicans have the mandate and the clout, I am cautiously optimistic that they will help older people like me without taking every spare penny we have.
Oh, they may throw a token amount of money at things, but there will be no fundamental changes. In the past, there were very high poverty rates for seniors in our country. Social Security changed that. And it is on its way to insolvency. What Republicans want to do is privatize it. Which will invariably lead to a situation where the wealthy can 'hoard' their portion of their contributions at the expense of those who don't make as much money. And the disconnect between rich and poor will just get worse.

Re: pay or die
I think the republican healthcare plan is simple: pay or die.
Not exactly, but close.
Their plan is: don't get sick. And if you do, die quickly.

Re: Try reading what Trump said it has been on his website since March
Obamacare was suppposed to reduce the costs, except that it didn't. Let's try something else.
Let's try something that actually works.
What 'works' is a singular system that is either partially or fully run by the government. Every 1st world country on the planet has recognized this except the USA.

Re: The Republicans Try, Try Again
Cause around 30 million people to lose insurance.
The preceding statement adequately summarizes to me just how ethically bereft some politicians (and people) truly are. How precisely is it an improvement to remove 30 million people from having health insurance? How does this benefit our country?
The true irony is that many of these people will just start leveraging emergency rooms for their standard medical needs, since it is against the law to turn anyone away from medical service. It's funny how Republicans can reconcile that notion with their capitalistic predilections. But mandate the purchasing of insurance to mitigate that cost? Can't do that because it's socialism. And we all know socialism is evil.

Re: The Republicans Try, Try Again
And it looks like John McCain is saying 'no' to this latest version of the repeal effort:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/...8d-cf053ff30921_story.html
quote:
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) announced Friday that he does not support the latest Republican effort to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, dealing a major and potentially decisive blow to the last-ditch attempt to fulfill a seven-year GOP promise.
McCain’s comments came on the same day that Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), who like McCain, voted against a GOP repeal bill in July, said she was likely to oppose the proposal, leaving the legislation on the brink of failure.
I still think this is McCain giving the proverbial 'middle finger' to Trump in lieu of Donald's comments about his war record.
