The inability to live up to the moral rules that God is responding to us with, does not impact whether or not He is responding, and therefore exists.

Well, Dave, I promised Percy that I wouldn't tell his forum members to fuck off any more, so I am not going to do that.
You just provided me an emotional outburst that had nothing to do with the point I was making. And my point stands.
And this has nothing to do with Trump. Too, it is entirely off topic for a Humour thread.
Have a nice day.

I thought it was funny because making religious people follow the commandments of their religions is too absurd for even God to consider.
Don't assume God considers things. If you think He might be in there, or out there, just try to find Him. When you do get a response, it will blow your mind. Experiencing the spiritual side really changes the religious one. But you do have to try. And everything here is just syntax, nothing more.

Re: Be Funny Or Die Trying
The pinnacle of Christian arrogance is in imagining that their own particular and singular view of the supernatural is the only possible one.
If you are talking about what I wrote, then that is just prejudiced and I would say: Stop it, Dave, it wasn't even about Christianity. Stop being so afraid of religion, I'm not trying to hurt you. Honestly. I get that there are a lot of people who try to use religion to hurt you, but that is not me.
In lieu of the theme of this thread, here is a funny picture:
Now, is psychoanalyzing the jokes on this thread "on-topic"? I dunno, but here goes:
quote:
The joke is that this is proposed as one more way that God could miraculously prove his existence, and then they laugh because making religious people follow the commandments of their religions would be too big a miracle even for God.
I guess I'm not sure why people think it is funny.
I took the guy who was initiating the conversation as being smug. Like two atheists laughing at how dumb the theists are.
That (the joke) is so far off-base from religious people that I don't even know where to begin. I mean, for people who are honestly being religious, being religious doesn't have anything to do with whether or not God exists. What honestly religious people are doing is relating to God. You could do that to the void.
In my opinion, what people who have honestly "found God" are trying to say is that they got a response. Given that there is a response, there is something there. Is it in any way even associated with the concept that they describing with the word "God"? Nobody actually knows. It turns out they're awfully short on data.
But, they're getting a response, so there's something there, and they're convinced that religion is an appropriate way to learn more. (I know that it could all be them just tricking themselves, but the real tricky part is due to the nature of what it means to respond, in that it requires initiation by the other party, i.e. you).
So, why don't religious people just follow what God tells them? Simply because it is too difficult.
Why doesn't God make them? Nobody knows because they don't have enough information, and honestly they're not even sure that they're not tricking themselves. But, to them there is no question that they're getting a response, so there has to be something there (to them).
On the other hand; if the first guy was proselytizing, then I agree that trying to promote religion by "proving God's existence" is a hilarious attempt. And I've found two ways in which it can be funny:
  • Of course: there's the atheist perspective on how dumb that is.
  • But as a theist: considering that if that is really how someone's religion "works", then I doubt that they have really even found God in the first place.
Now that I think about it, that's actually more sad than funny. I dunno, I'd need to know more about the person who drew the cartoon to figure out where they were going with it. Given on how far off-base it seems to me, I'd say it's the first bullet point. And if you atheists really think you are "past" religion, then shouldn't you be trying to help people instead of laughing at them?
I get laughing at people who are miserably failing at trying to hurt you, but is that really how you see yourselves?
Sorry, Dave. This is just me relating to you and it happens to be anonymously over the internet. I'm not really trying to spread my religion, I just want to talk. Shit, that is religion. That was a joke. See, I am on topic.

Re: Be Funny Or Die Trying
Thanks for the concern and explanation, do you mind if I call you Dave?
Glad you were able to get all that out of your system. Since it has absolutely nothing to do with me, I'll just let it lie there.
Me too, and I can leave that there. I just wanted to explain myself:
In Message 615, you said fuck me and fuck trump, and I had no idea where that came from. Given what I had just written; If that was just a simple misunderstanding, then IDGAF and we're good.
One thing you could have done for me was "acknowledge" my last reply to you, Message 615 (then I would have known you saw it and didn't want to disagree here). You can do that to that to this post to say that you agree. Otherwise, please respond with your disagreement.

Shoehorning your opponents into prejudged positions so that you can respond with default stock answers is giving you tunnel vision in a way that is preventing you from seeing the actual points that are being made.

Milos' and Ann's positions aren't a mystery.
I meant me. I didn't post that comic to say that protesting someone is a violation of their free speech - that's retarded.
Antifa is explicitly against free speech, and its funny that they are the ones who are calling people Nazis.

This is relevant today. (I went to high school in Belleville, IL... and we've been chatty about this shooting)
Here is a link to a Daily Show clip from 2015:
http://www.cc.com/...r-not-to-shoot---fear-and-absent-danger
Although somber, it is quite funny. And this is a humor thread. And I turn to humor as a coping mechanism.
I thought I'd share it here because we talk about gun violence, and left vs right, and all the shit in between.
In this case it was a leftist that fucked up, and I'm a little on the right.
It was also an example of Defensive Gun Use that I've argued for here.
So, I offer a hilarious leftist, Jon Stewart, as a voice of reason:
"I can't believe we have to reiterate this: It is not okay to shoot other people because you are offended by what they draw. Even if they drew it to offend you... no shooting of them.
...
You cannot shoot people because you don't share their opinion. You cannot shoot people even if they offend you."
The clip is 10 minutes long and I thought it was quite humorous all the way to the end.
I hope you watch it & like it and laugh,
-
