Re: Missing message
I seem to recall having a similar problem, though that was a while ago.
My best guess, at that time, was that a database entry was out of date. And presumably that entry is needed for the reply. After some additional posts to the thread, it usually corrects itself.

Shameless plug - What's the Frequency, Kenneth?
I did this last week at a different topic. This is a better place.
The main index page:
AudioPort.Org - Find Programs by Series&
Tomorrows episode:
AudioPort.Org - &
There is a download link there, but I'm not giving out the user ID and password.
Titled ""Heavens To Betsy And Bannon" ( Told Through Narration,Music And Soundbites)"
The blurb:
quote:
For the first time ever, it took a vote by the Vice President to break a 50-50 tie in the US Senate to approve a cabinet nominee...Betsy DeVos as Education Secretary. Why so controversial? But first...On his first speech to the US Central Command..Donald Trump opens with...what else...his election "numbers". And House democrats hold a news conference to talk about Trump rolling back protections against Wall St. abuse...and get asked about "impeachment" talk. Oh, and House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi, flat out calls chief Trump White House strategist, Steve Bannon, " a white supremacist". ( Told Through Narration, Music and Soundbites
I think the "not a Trump fan" types will enjoy this program. It is being broadcast and webcast on our local low power FM station at 9:00pm (US central time) on Tuesdays.
Streaming link is at the top of the page at KTWH 99.5 FM – Two Harbors Community Radio
My 2 hour program, the Ektoplazm Eargazm precedes "What's the Frequency...". It is an electronica (psy-trance) program.
For time zone correction purposes, I am posting this message at 8:10pm (US central time).

Re: Shameless plug - What's the Frequency, Kenneth?
I will try to catch this tomorrow. Please post an other reminder tomorrow afternoon. I can probably even pick up the radio station. I am across the lake on WI South shore, near Poplar, about five miles from the lake.

Re: Shameless plug - What's the Frequency, Kenneth?
It's a bump!
Ektoplazm Eargazm starts in about 17 minutes.
What's The Frequency, Kenneth starts in about 2 hours and 17 minutes.
99.5 on the FM dial (but we're only a 100 watt station).
KTWH 99.5 FM – Two Harbors Community Radio on the internet, audio link at page top (KTWH 99.5 FM Two Harbors Community Radio should launch the audio).

The station is on Tunein so I can listen through my Sonos system. So far I find the music must be an acquired taste.

Re: Shameless plug - What's the Frequency, Kenneth?
The Ektoplazm Eargazm show is usually material from the Ektoplazm.com site, with full fidelity downloads and a creative commons license. That license frees me from the common copyright restrictions, which means I can legally play entire albums.
This show is NOT my favorite style of Ektoplazm. But I do try to also air stuff that's not personal favorites.

I want to do some calculations about genetic drift and fixation in humans using these Genetic drift - Wikipedia. As in modern humans right now, or in the nearby future. What would be a good value or a value range for the effective population size?

Human current effective population size
Good Question. In the past with limited mobility the planet's human population was probably broken up into several smaller effective populations with limited gene flow between them. E.g. pre Columbus there was not much flow between America and europe. Although the world is still somewhat separated people are much more mobile these days and there is more gene flow possible. Just think about the recent mass migrations from the Middle east and Northern Africa to Europe. I think the effective population today would be the total world population of 7 billion people.

Re: Oort cloud question.
I know the oort cloud has been shown to be the primary source of comets.
The Oort Cloud is hypothetical. It has not been shown to exist let alone be the source of comets.

What Kind of Stone Is This?
Last year I went on a Southern Spain cruise. In Cdiz, Spain, our guide pointed out the use of a particular kind of rock in almost all the buildings. She described it as an aggregation or concretation or the like of materials on the sea floor, including shells. And sure enough, we saw it everywhere, especially in the older buildings.
I just returned from three weeks in Central Europe. In Salzburg, Austria, we started seeing what appears to be the same kind of stone used in older construction, such as this column at the Priesterseminar where we stayed (please pardon the rotation):
Then walking through the Altstadt, we saw that stone used over and over again, especially as posts in doorways, in the remnants of the city walls and city gates, everywhere.
Can anybody identify what it is?

That's not what effective population size means; and there is more than one. The effective population size needs to be relevant to some statistic or other. The effective population size is the population size you would expect based on that statistic in a idealised Fisher-Wright population.
A Fisher-Wright population is of a constant size, has discrete generations that only reproduce once and is made up of diploid hermaphrodites who mate randomly. Humans are of course very different to this, so our effective population size should be significantly smaller than the actual population.

Frog identification
I am not good at telling frogs apart and not having much luck finding helpful guidance on the interwebs. I've ordered myself a field guide, but for the time being, any helpful herpetologists able to identify this little fella? Photographed in North Holland:
