Where's the Fake News?
While we continue to wait for actual examples of "fake news" from the mainstream media, here as potential candidates are the top few headlines from today's New York Times:
If anyone finds anything "fake" in any of these articles please bring it the thread's attention.

Re: deportations
Great. Thank you for the information.
You are welcome.
Any apology for claiming there are no such orders and that Obama initiated the orders?

Re: it's hard to walk with only right feet ...
Right, smack dab in the middle. Which does surprise me somewhat since even I think of myself as identifiably on the right. But the reason I brought it up was that RAZD said I must be reading his chart from the point of view of the VERY far right and I don't think that's true. My midline score at least supports my idea that it's more likely that "Mainstream" has gone Leftist (and that EvC is SO far Left it looks neutral to y'all).
Hi Faith. The problem with the Political Compass quiz is that it's written by people who are themselves far to the liberal left. Whilst they may have tried to be fair with their questions, their own bias has led them to the state where reasonable answers skew everybody's results towards the bottom left quarter. To actually get substantially into the authoritarian right quadrant you have to agree with some fairly hateful comments, as that's how the authors see the far right.

Re: it's hard to walk with only right feet ...
Yes, that sounds like a very reasonable assessment of how I got into the middle, their hateful characterizations of the right. One reason I decided not to take it again was that I was offended by their focus on race. I don't think in terms of race and I refuse to be forced to decide if my race is good or bad.
Thanks.

Re: deportations
Sure I'll apologize for not knowing he'd issued an order. But all I said was that I wasn't aware of such orders and that left Obams as the source.

No, your lack of awareness does not leave Obama as the source. Isn't it quite obvious that your own ignorance has no effect on reality?

Re: deportations
You have a pathological need to never admit you are wrong. You have never admitted that, of the multitudes of times you have been totally utterly wrong, you are wrong.

Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts
"God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.
If your viewpoint has merits and facts to back it up why would you have to lie?

The error in logic is all yours, but could you perhaps divert time from issuing spurious insults to providing some support for your contention that the mainstream media is "fake news"? So far what we mostly have is that if Trump and Faith don't like it, it's fake.

Percy responds to me:

It's important to note that the original order applied to everyone from those seven countries, including those with green cards.
I think you're confusing the new policy regarding deportation of immigrants with the Muslim ban.
That is, the new policy regarding how ICE officials will prioritize people for deportation applies to *everyone,* not just Muslims from the 7 (well...6 now, since Iraq is being taken off the list...which only goes to show that the ban isn't based off anything rational and provides a basis for challenge in court.)
You're trying to find the fleck of gold in the mountain of excrement. This is the variation on the "Doesn't Kick Puppies" syndrome...that if only we can find the one good thing, that somehow negates all the rest of it. "Well, he can't be that bad...he doesn't kick puppies." Yes, the new order is "better" than what came before, but that doesn't make what was put forward a good thing. It still has the basic underlying premise that is going to send it to court which will likely not survive.
Especially compared to the other actions he has taken.

Re: Analysis of New York Times Article
ICE is acting under the memos issued by the Trump administration. See, e.g., here.
We've already seen the detrimental impact these new policies are having on undocumented communities; e.g., Daniela Vargas (a DACA recipient) has been detained by ICE after speaking at a news conference about the new administration.
So, yeah. Fuck ICE.

Re: deportations

It does not seem that my logic is the issue here.
I'm wondering now why when you've been shown to be wrong, you continue to excuse yourself by pointing to the fact that you have not read or are not aware of easily noted facts. Your ignorance is no excuse. The fact that you don't know something means only that you should check, and not that it is safe to assume that reality is what you want it to be.
You asserted, without knowledge, and not because you had actually looked, that Trump had not issued any immigration orders. No, that process does not eliminate Trump. In fact it does not necessarily even implicate Obama since he is not the only president we've had prior to Trump.

Nope.
You're trying to find the fleck of gold in the mountain of excrement.
You're trying to make a single characterization fit everything Trump does.

The idea appeared to spring off the top of his head during a meeting with news anchors, so it's very likely true that he hasn't had time to think it through, nor vet it with his staff or the relevant agencies, which he should have done before even mentioning it. Poor impulse control.
On top of that, as soon as he said it, his aides and cohorts in the room immediately started to look nervous. He then turned to them to say, "Can we get that in the speech?" (remember...he didn't write the speech.) And sure enough, it wasn't in the speech.
Yet another example of the lack of any sort of control within the White House in general and Trump in particular. He simply blurts out whatever is in his head without thinking and leaves the mess for his underlings to clean up.
Signorile has an interesting idea: The next time Trump is going to speak, take five of his staff and put them in separate rooms. When he's done, have them all independently explain what Trump "really meant."

Re: Analysis of New York Times Article
Actually, the WH is calling it a 'misdirection play'.
But he made no such remarks Tuesday night, and CNN's Sara Murray called it a "bait-and-switch."
Basically they fed [news outlets] things that they thought these anchors would like, that they thought would give them positive press coverage for the next few hours. A senior administration official admitted that it was a misdirection play," Murray said.
SAD!
