Nations have to be governed by Law, to keep the peace by restraining crime, and Law is found in the Old Testament.
Except that very few items in the Old Testament are actual laws in our legal system. Take a look at the 10 Commandments. Let's go through them:
1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
No law specifying preference for one god over another in our legal system. In fact, our First Amendment specifically indicates that there will never be any mandate of this sort.
2. You shall make no idols.
No law against this. In fact, idols can be bought on eBay and Amazon with ease.
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
There are some censorship-related laws pertaining to swearing. But nothing specific regarding any religious blasphemy that I am aware of.
4. Keep the Sabbath day holy.
Not a law. People are free to do whatever they like on Sunday. (Or Saturday depending on your religious views)
5. Honor your father and your mother.
No law requiring this. If anything, we have the reverse: there are laws in place to ensure that parents be responsible for their children.
6. You shall not murder.
This is an actual law. Although 'murder' is somewhat vague here. If a soldier kills another soldier on the battlefield, is that 'murder'?
7. You shall not commit adultery.
No laws against this that I am aware of. Other than expensive divorce proceedings.
8. You shall not steal.
Laws against this but with caveats. For example, in a disaster situation, you can technically 'steal' if it is a life and death situation.
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
We do have perjury laws in our court system. However, general 'lying' is not specifically targeted except in defamation cases involving libel or slander. If it were, all our politicians would be in jail.
10. You shall not covet.
No laws against this. In fact, it's what keeps our economy going.
Pertaining to other 'laws' in the old testament, that is open to interpretation since Christians can't agree on what applies and what doesn't. i.e. gay=bad, blended fabrics=ok.

Re: And 180 degrees to the right...
We conservatives have watched the media lie and manipulate in favor of the Left and against the Right for years. Oh yes they do. the lies have even become more blatant through the Trump candidacy.
Does that include Fox News? Last I checked, they are part of the 'media'. And also the last time I checked, they lean heavily conservative.
Why is everything myopic in your world view? It's left/right, liberal/conservative, black/white, up/down. There appears to be no critical analysis or review. It's just simply: "Liberals are evil. They lie. They are communists. Obama is a Muslim Kenyan. The world is 6000 years old because a book written by early iron age goat herders tells me so." Yada yada.
The issue I am seeing is not necessarily misrepresentations by the media, white house spin doctors, and so forth. It is a complete lack of critical thinking on the part of many who seemed to have just decided to shut off the analytical part of their brain and deny facts even when they are staring them in the face.

Fox News = False News
For those still wondering who the true source of 'false news' might be, look no further than good old Faux News.

Fox News deletes false Qubec shooting tweet after Canadian PM's office steps in

The office of the Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau has forced Fox News to apologise and retract a false and misleading tweet that inaccurately described the suspect in the Qubec City mosque shooting as a man of Moroccan origin.
Kate Purchase, the director of communications for the prime minister’s office, sent a letter to Fox News objecting to misinformation it had put out after the attack on the Qubec City Islamic cultural center.
Six people were fatally shot in the back as they prayed at the mosque on Sunday. Another 19 people were wounded. On Tuesday two people remained in critical condition.
Shortly after the attack police had arrested two men, one of whom was a Moroccan-born Qubecer. By midday on Monday, police had clarified that only one was a suspect, and they had released the Moroccan-born man — who was now being treated as a witness — without charge.
Fox News later tweeted on Monday afternoon — after the police clarification — that the suspect in the attack was of Moroccan origin.
The Fox News tweet made no mention of the other man arrested, French-Canadian Alexandre Bissonnette, who now faces six charges of first-degree murder and five of attempted murder. Those who know Bissonnette have described him as pro-Donald Trump, anti-immigration and sympathetic to the far right.

Fox News Under Federal Investigation
Fox News under federal investigation over Ailes settlement payments
quote:
The U.S. Justice Department is investigating whether Fox News failed to inform shareholders about settlements made with employees who charged former chairman and CEO Roger Ailes with sexual harassment, a source with knowledge of the matter told CNNMoney.
"I was told by the U.S. attorney's office there is an ongoing criminal investigation, relating to these allegations, all of these allegations," Burstein said, according to The New York Daily News. The subpoena, which was issued by U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara's office, included "alleged violations of criminal law by Fox," Burstein said.
Now I am not sure if this is fake news about real news network for real news about a fake news network. Or if this is all 'alternative facts'. I'm so confused...

Trump is great he is doing everything he said he would.
Releasing his tax returns? That would be a nope.

Re: On Russians and Wiretaps
I am actually wondering if this is somewhat of a mea culpa on Comey's part for the snafu regarding the re-opening of the investigation of Hillary's emails right before the election. That is widely regarded as a bonehead move and could have actually tipped the scales in favor of Trump in the election.
My guess is he is performing this civic duty as a means to finally settle the matter and to also give the impression of his bi-partisanship. But I don't think much will come of it. There may be a smoking gun that is discovered. And Trump may actually be stupid enough to have left a trail for them. We shall see.
But my personal opinion is that Trump wasn't in collusion with anyone. He is too dumb to come up with a scheme that intricate. My guess is Putin saw an opportunity to put a halfwit into the White House and he capitalized on it. Trump in the end is just a spoiled-brat man-child with no impulse control. And if he had colluded with the Russians, he probably would have bragged about it on Twitter.

marc9000 writes:
Here are the two Washington Post headlines, for the same actions;
[June 30th, 2016, for Obama] "U.S. offers to share Syria intelligence on terrorists with Russia."
[May 15th, 2017, for Trump]"Trump revealed highly classified information to Russian diplomats."
A lot of people are keeping score of news media bias.
What bias?
The information that Trump shared was not his to give. Israel gave us that information with the promise that we wouldn't tell other people. That's a much different situation than sharing information that we haven't promised to keep secret.
And to follow-up on Taq's point: can Marc reference the articles from the Obama administration where he fired the head of the FBI that was leading an investigation against him?

Trump: Firing FBI Chief 'Eased Pressure'
Trump: Firing 'nut job' FBI chief 'eased pressure' - BBC News

Well, I am guessing the main thing relieving his 'pressure' now would be laxatives.

Flynn to take the Fifth
Flynn invokes Fifth Amendment, rebuffs Senate panel subpoena | Fox News
quote:
Flynn to invoke Fifth Amendment, rebuff Senate panel subpoena
Former national security adviser Michael Flynn plans to invoke his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and rebuff a Senate panel subpoena, Fox News confirms.
Flynn's decision comes less than two weeks after the Senate intelligence committee issued a subpoena for Flynn's documents as part of the panel's investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election.
And before someone chastises me for 'leftist tactics against the president', the above is a Fox News article.

More shakeups at the Trumphouse
quote:
Trump's communications director is out as larger shakeup looms
Mike Dubke, who was on the job a little over three months, resigned on May 18.
Beyond Dubke, White House press secretary Sean Spicer is expected to take on a reduced public role, though he is conducting the briefing later on Tuesday. Dubke, who was only on the job for a little over three months, had been a Spicer ally in the White House.
Trump's communications director is out as larger shakeup looms - POLITICO
With the way things are going, I think they should play the Benny Hill theme in the background when these news stories are released.

Re: Donald Trump jr met the Russians
And apparently, there might be emails that could be quite damning:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/...n/5963e8eee9b69b7071abcb06
quote:
Before arranging a meeting with a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer he believed would offer him compromising information about Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump Jr. was informed in an email that the material was part of a Russian government effort to aid his father’s candidacy, according to three people with knowledge of the email.
Well this should be interesting. It's starting to read like a Robert Ludlum novel.

Not guilty by reason of incompetence.
Well that explains why most politicians seldom get convicted.
As the comedian Ron White likes to say 'you can't fix stupid'.

Re: Scaramucci gone?
Peter Dinklage as Press Secretary would make this whole fiasco 10 times more fun to watch.
Indeed. Grey Worm as Secretary of Defense. Missandei as new Communications Director.
And Jeff Sessions already looks like a White Walker, so we're all set!

And there goes Steve Bannon
https://www.yahoo.com/...165104169--abc-news-topstories.html
quote:
Steve Bannon out as White House chief strategist
Steve Bannon has resigned from his role as White House chief strategist, ABC News has learned.
A source close to Bannon told ABC News the resignation was effective on Aug. 14, exactly one year after he joined the Trump campaign.
This really is Game of Thrones!
