Re: Watch the price
First the $149 "regular" price appears to be bullshit. They offered an additional 30 % of the price that first appears and that brings it to what the real price should be -- $39.
Okay I got one for that as well. Boy they sure badger you to buy additional products -- you have to scroll down to get the "no thanks" buttons.
My challenge will be that it is meant to screw to the bottom of the camera and I keep arca swiss plates on the bottom of mine (actually L brackets on both of them). I'm going to look at putting it on my travel tripod with a plate bolted to it but haven't had time to research it yet.
Pardon my ignorance, but couldn't you add that to the top of the bracket?...

My first thought is, there is no tightening screw or knob for the joints. I can't think of what I would use it for.

I saw that too. It looks like it depends on friction to hold in place, and that there are allen-key hex socket bolts that could adjust the friction. Not the best.
I also wondered why the level bubble was on the base not the top where it would be most useful.

I also wondered why the level bubble was on the base not the top where it would be most useful.
I have a number of gadgets that have levels on the base. Supposedly, this is to set the tripod so the camera sits level. Most of those levels not worth anything, they are there for show and are not actually aligned to indicate a true level position. The little single bubble levels are completely useless in my opinion for adjusting anything to level.
I have a panoramic head for my tripod that works best if the base is leveled. This device is pretty handy if I am taking a series of vertical format shots that I want to stitch together into a seamless panoramic shot. It adjusts so the swivel axis is the center of the lens. Then near features like a bush and far features like the mountains are in perfect alignment in adjacent shots. It even maintains this alignment if the camera is tilted out of a level position.

It looks like it has been discontinued, too bad, it is a clever device and most models cost $300+.

I've used bubble levels on transit tripods and level tripods when surveying -- large ones. I've also used perpendicular spirit levels, which are a little more tedious to set (one is never truly independent of the other).
But I would want the level on the top where the camera is mounted.

Yep, I agree. I have a couple little cube 3-axis levels that slide into the hotshoe on the camera that work remarkably well.
With this device, I guess a level on the top would be ok if you were using it to test if the camera is level in its current position. If the base is not level though, any panning of the device and camera would de-level the camera.

They seem desperate to sell them.
I finally looked at their webpage. The last photo of the ZenTilt looks like they are taking a photo of a pile of shit. The ads clearly were not created by someone familiar with western culture.....
The comments are pretty good also. One says: Quick delivery, god quality. It doesn't get better than that.

personal review TBA
I am guessing that by late June I'll be able to report back on this thing. I will be out of action for more than two weeks with a surgery scheduled soon. By the time I am mobile it may have arrived (if it does).

Well, you live where you can still afford to have surgery. I hope it goes well.

Affordable
Well, I do have to pay a few hundred dollars a year to the government for my insurance because I have too much money to be subsidized.
In addition, I'm out about $100 for some antibiotics I have to take before hand.
I choose to go with the standard room which means I might share with up to 3 others for the 5 days I will be in. It would have been about $1,000 dollars for a private room and I figure that buys a lot of earplugs. (that's for all 5 days btw, and I won't pay anything for the shared room)
Then, as every one in the US knows from the republicans, I have cancer and have to wait to get in for my surgery. In my case, that will be a total of about 7 weeks from diagnosis.
We do have a difficult time here in Canada. Not like in the US where you have the world's best health care system. I saw that on TV so it must be true. Does the Fox fib?
The prognosis is excellent so I will be lurking here for a few more years.

That's good news. You'll be in good company here, there are a fair number of us survivors.

I thought the waiting time was based on triage, treating the most life threatening first. So I take it that your cancer is not aggressive at this point.

Prognosis
I am told I have "low grade" (i.e., slow growing) colon cancer. I complained that I deserved to have a better quality than that but my doc laughed at me.
I'll lose the first half of the large intestine but I'm told it should have no consequences after a few months of recovery.
Since it is slow growing there was any attempt to rush it particularly but for cancers they do move things up a bit. I did have to have my doc hurry things to get the colonoscopy in about a 2 week wait.

Re: Prognosis
Just to put things in perspective it is not unusual here in the US to wait a week or two to get results of blood work.
Glad prognosis is good but do feel even low grade may be giving you too much credit.
