Re: Second Amendment
The idea of disarming the good guys because of so many bad guys isn't going to fly, however.
Well then, until you can accurately and reliably tell the difference between "good" and "bad" guys before they go postal, you will continue to have massacres.

NRA calls for more heavily armed reporters
"The National Rifle Association has claimed today’s tragic shooting of two reporters wouldn’t have happened if America’s reporters were better armed."
ok.. it's satire.. but with the NRA's views on arming the nation, this could have been an actual response....

Re: Prayer works if you do it right
Uh? Praying only works if you're praying in god's will - wtf does that mean?
It appears that Praying only works if you're praying for the thing that god was going to do anyway.

Guns kill 1,300 US children every year, study finds
Perhaps not a surprise, but some of the statistics are quite shocking.
- 6% of firearm-related deaths were fatalities from accidental gun injuries.
- About 19 children a day die or are medically treated in an emergency department for a gunshot wound in the US.
- The study found a 60% increase in gun suicides from 2007-15
- more than 90% of all children ages 14 and up who were killed by guns in high-income countries resided in the US.

Re: Guns kill 1,300 US children every year, study finds
So what isn't "meaningful" about 1300 children, dead, per year.
Do you seriously believe that if guns weren't so freely available that there would still be 1300 dead children, due to gunshots/wounds (legally held or otherwise) every year?
if the answer to that is no, then you must support better gun control.
how many dead children is it worth to have the freedom to carry a gun? what's the number?
At what point would you hypothetically say "right, that's enough, take the guns off the streets"
is there a threshold?
Do you accept any connection whatsoever between the number of guns in circulation and the number of gun deaths?

Re: Guns kill 1,300 US children every year, study finds
As Dr A and others have shown throughout this thread, it matters not how "responsible" or "proficient" a gun owner thinks he/she is/isn't.
accidents continue to happen, mistakes continue to be made.
As long as there are guns in homes across the US, this will continue to be the case.
Not to mention intentional killings/suicides.

what kind of training they'd had
are you hinting that you may support restricting gun ownership to those with adequate training?

Re: Guns kill 1,300 US children every year, study finds
How about taking guns away from Americans with insufficient/no training?
How about taking guns away from Americans with known mental health issues?
How about taking guns away from Americans who have previously proved themselves to be irresponsible by letting their infant children blow someone's head off?

Beyond reproach: "such that no criticism can be made"
In the eyes of the politicians in thrall to the gun lobby, the NRA is beyond reproach.
The (pro gun) voting public don't seem to see this selective blindness of the politicians.

Satire seems to say it better than any argument...
this:
"Good guy with a gun fails to prevent 2916th successive mass shooting"
Good guy with a gun fails to prevent 2,916th successive mass shooting
and this:
"UK somehow manages seventh successive year with no mass shootings"
UK somehow manages seventh successive year with no mass shootings

.
Stolen from a tweet I saw earlier
"Who cares if Kim Jong Un gets a nuke?
Nukes don't kill people, PEOPLE kill people.
.
See how fucking stupid that sounds?"

Re: Texas This Time
quote:
Following the revelation that the Texas church shooter was a white man, the US government has confirmed that now is not the time for new laws, politics, or a gun control debate.
If the man had been a foreign-born Muslim, then it would have been the time to abandon political correctness and call for immediate action, probably by being insulting to anyone of Muslim faith — but he isn’t, so we won’t.
Texas shooter a white man, so now is not the time for new laws or debate, confirms Trump
