The increasingly confident Islamic fundamentalists governing Turkey have now decided
to remove evolution from the high school curriculum.
In order to justify this to a society that is still largely secular; they are claiming that the topic is simply too controversial and too difficult for high school students, and best left for university.
Turkish teenagers are apparently expected to have no problems grasping the role of ATP in energy transfer or the process of photosynthesis; but are too young and simple to understand the basics of natural selection (it's not as if the previous curriculum required an advanced knowledge of population genetics).
