Well I never !
US will 'not repeat' claims GCHQ wiretapped Donald Trump - BBC News
It would seem that what can stop the Trump administration spouting complete and utter bollocks, is for Mrs May to administer a firm spanking !
Ooooohhhh Matron !!

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Presumably, he will soon be looking to change America's official language to gibberish.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

That bit must have been ghost written. It's coherent and makes sense.

More seriously, of course, it's also straight out of the snake oil salesman's play book.
"Fool you ? How could I fool you, Sir ? You're clearly far too intelligent to be fooled by the likes of me."

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

It's certainly ghastly ;-)

Genuinely delusional
This is an excerpt from Trump's interview with The Economist:
But beyond that it’s OK if the tax plan increases the deficit?
It is OK, because it won’t increase it for long. You may have two years where you’llyou understand the expression prime the pump?
Yes.
We have to prime the pump.
It’s very Keynesian.
We’re the highest-taxed nation in the world. Have you heard that expression before, for this particular type of an event?
Priming the pump?
Yeah, have you heard it?
Yes.
Have you heard that expression used before? Because I haven’t heard it. I mean, I justI came up with it a couple of days ago and I thought it was good. It’s what you have to do.
Here's the full interview: Transcript: Interview with Donald Trump | The Economist
So he now believes he coined the phrase "prime the pump".
Words fail.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Trump departs from his previous script.....
So Trump reaches out to the Muslim world, and doesn't condemn Islam as a murderous cult, as it's often described on these boards by Trump supporters.
How do Trump supporters feel about that ?

The Supreme Leader's latest
I read on the BBC news website that Trump is considering using Presidential pardon powers to pardon his family, aides and even himself, if the current investigations lead to any unlawful activity being uncovered: Donald Trump insists he has 'complete power' to pardon - BBC News
There is an element of speculation to this, but it is hard to see what else his tweet was referencing.
I'm hard pushed to think of any more fundamental pillar of a liberal democracy, than the principle that our leaders are subject to the full force of the law, in exactly the same way as every other citizen.
Is it too much to hope that even a proportion of Trump supporters might realise how utterly wrong it would be for him to pardon himself or his family in relation to any crimes they may have committed ?

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Re: New poll numbers 33% approval ratings
Are they not amazing poll numbers ? The most amazing and best poll numbers an American President has ever received ?

Re: Darrell Issa concedes
I’ve been keeping away from this and other fora for a while, to manage my stress and fear for the world.
But on an important day like today, I wanted to wish all decent people in the States the best: for the start of a fight-back; for the recollection that fear and hatred are the start of all evil; for the belief that mankind is better than tribalism and insularity; for the hope that we can remember what we fought for in WW2; and to recognise and to fight against the resurgence of the evil that so many of our grandfathers and grandmothers gave up their lives to defeat and to deny to their last breath. I have visited the Holocaust Museum in Berlin - and the language of the Right increasingly resembles that of the National Socialists in the 1930s.
Time to say this isn’t us. We fought against that. We’re better than that.
Good luck, all true Americans.

Raking it in...
Story about Trump claiming that the Finns go out and rake their extremely extensive forests:
California wildfires: Finland bemused by Trump raking comment - BBC News
I can think of three possibilities:
1. Trump's simply lying, secure in the knowledge that his support base doesn't give a crap that he lies, or will believe that the Finns are lying instead.
2. He's too thick to understand what was being said to him.
3. He got bored listening to someone's voice other than his own, and invented some ludicrous bollocks to fill in the gaps in his recollection.
Any other thoughts?
I know two guys, one half Finnish and his cousin 100% Finnish. I can confirm that Finns are not simpletons and do not rake forests. They're usually too busy drinking highly priced alcohol, or having a sauna.

Re: Raking it in...
Actually:
4. The Finnish President has a bet with his fellow world leaders as to which one of them can make Trump say the stupidest thing.
