Re: Donald Trump jr met the Russians
The most interesting part of the article IMO
quote:
Mr Trump Jr has defended attending the meeting, saying the promised damaging information did not materialise.
Say what? "We attempted to meet with agents of a foreign government to get espionage materials collected on H. Clinton, but it did not work out." That's what I hear when I read Jr's statement.
What kind of excuse is that?

My go-to defence.
Unfortunately, while incompetence may result in you not being charged with murder, it cannot prevent you from being convicted of inchoate offenses like attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Going to check on the Fox spin on this today.

Trump claims Russians preferred Hillary for President
Trump's on a roll. More stuff said that simply does not jibe with reality.
quote:
President Trump said Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin would have preferred Hillary Clinton as U.S. president instead of himself.
In an interview with Christian Broadcasting Network's Pat Robertson, the president said that Russia would have benefited from a Clinton victory because she would weaken the military and drive up energy prices.

Re: Wait...what?????
That may depend on how many fundy Christians are on the jury.
Exactly. Apparently, a fundy Christian would understand that some lefty set up Donald Jr. without hearing a shred of evidence or seeing any indication that anybody to the left of Atilla the Hun was even involved.
You simply don't have the proper mindset. Try asking yourself, "What would Alex Jones say?" Imagine a jury filled with people doing that.

Re: The Supreme Leader's latest
Gerald Ford was an honorable, kind and honest person and a pretty good President yet his pardon of Richard Nixon.
Legally, receiving a pardon is not an admission of guilt, but... the grant of a pardon is an imputation of guilt. The pardon granter is saying he believes you the pardon recipient are guilty.
Now, what does it mean if you give yourself a pardon? That's a self-imputation, and pretty much an admission of guilt. A pardon is ineffective against impeachment.
A pardon also removes the ability to take the 5th.
All in all, a self-pardon may be most unwise, and pardoning guilty folks before an investigation is complete may well be nearly as unwise.
ABE:
Another scenario. Someone is threatened with criminal sanctions for not reporting contact with the Russians on their security clearance application. Trump pardons them. That person surely is not keeping his security clearance after that, right?

Trump speech at the Boy Scout Jamboree...
If anyone had any doubt that Trump is a vain, narcissist, those doubts would have been cleared up by listening to Trump's speech to the Boy Scouts yesterday.
Does anybody want to take a stab at explaining how this speech was all about the boy scouts rather than all about Trump? Some choice excerpts:
quote:
"By the way, what do you think the chances are that this incredible, massive crowd, record-setting is going to be shown on television tonight? One percent or zero?"
quote:
But do you remember that incredible night with the maps and the Republicans are red and the Democrats are blue, and that map was so red, it was unbelievable, and they didn't know what to say?
quote:
By the way, just a question, did President Obama ever come to a jamboree?
ABE: I meant to add this final one, and of course you need a link to the transcript so you know I am not fibbing. I hadn't realized that the Boy Scouts were so partisan. Wonder why my parents had me join?
Trump 2017 Boy Scout Jamboree Speech: Full Transcript | Time
quote:
And you know we have a tremendous disadvantage in the Electoral College -- popular vote is much easier.

Re: Trump does something good..
It's a sad day when Trump actually does something positive and the media still try to 'blame Russia'. Also when Fox News is being more impartial than the others.
The link to this video does not work. I am going to assume that this is the sarcastic post of the week.
By the way, has anyone heard from Dr. Adequate lately?

Yet another soundbite of Trump doing what no one else can...
It is much easier to act presidential than what we are doing here tonight, believe me," Trump said. "With the exception of the late, great Abraham Lincoln, I can be more presidential than any president that's ever held this office.
Trump is a buffoon. Pure and simple.

No Transgender folk in Trump's armed services.
In a move that should have surprised not one person, Trump announced today that folks who are transgender could not serve in the military in any capacity. The commander-in-chief's announcement reverses a position adopted by the military just over two years ago. In May 2015, service members were told that they could serve openly without fear of being discharged solely for being transgender.
Link to old policy:
https://www.defense.gov/...l-Reports/0616_transgender-policy
quote:
Effective immediately, transgender Service members may serve openly, and they can no longer be discharged or otherwise separated from the military solely for being transgender individuals.
Trump announced the new policy on Twitter.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/...der-people-in-u-s-military
quote:
After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military, Trump wrote on Twitter. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail
When can this shite be over?

DOJ says Title 7 does not cover sexual orientation
As would have to be expected for a DOJ being run by Jeff Sessions, civil rights are an impediment to freedom and must be curtailed at all costs.
quote:
The Justice Department filed an amicus brief Wednesday saying that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 does not cover employment "discrimination based on sexual orientation."
The DOJ filed the brief in the case of Donald Zarda, who had filed suit against his former employer Altitude Express in a case that questions whether sexual orientation is included in Title VII's protections.
The DOJ, of course, had the option of just keeping silent on the issue, but apparently wanted it made clear that it is okay with firing a skydiving instructor because a customer knows he is gay. This is the crap Jeff Sessions stands for and always has stood for.

Re: Trump speech at the Boy Scout Jamboree...
The chief of the boycotts apologized today for the political remarks made at the Trump speech.
quote:
Boy Scouts of America Chief Scout Executive Michael Surbaugh has penned a blog post apologizing for President Donald Trump's speech at the 2017 National Jamboree, following days of intensifying pressure to denounce the president's politically charged remarks.
But those real moments of Scouting were overshadowed by the remarks offered by the President of the United States, he wrote.
We sincerely regret that politics were inserted into the Scouting program, he added.
Trump's spokespeople are pretending not to know what the fuss is about.
Boy Scouts chief apologizes for Trump's politically charged speech - ABC News
quote:
Asked to respond to the criticism Thursday, incoming White House press secretary Sarah Sanders repeatedly touted the energy of the crowds responding to the president and said nothing about the substance of the president’s remarks.
"I haven't seen the statement from the Boy Scouts. So I can't comment any further than what I saw firsthand, and that was a lot of individuals, roughly 40 to 45,000 as reported, cheering the president on," she said.
Sarah Sanders is correct of course about the reaction of the scouts. There was huge cheering among the scouts and their parents as Trump bragged about how great he was while running down Hillary, Obama, etc.
I recall an early incident in Obama's presidency when he announced that he planned to make an address to school children. Conservatives couldn't shriek about the idea of Barrack addressing kids any louder than they did.
Many conservatives enraged over Obama school speech - CNN.com
quote:
"The goal of the speech and the lesson plans is to challenge students to work hard, stay in school and dramatically reduce the dropout rate," an administration spokesman said. "This isn't a policy speech. It's a speech designed to encourage kids to stay in school.
quote:
Some of the controversy surrounding Obama's speech stems from a proposed lesson plan created by the Education Department to accompany the address. An initial version of the plan recommended that students draft letters to themselves discussing "what they can do to help the president."
Of course, conservatives reacted to Obama's plan with outrage despite the fact that Presidents Reagan and Bush Sr. had made nationally televised speeches targeted at school children.
Of course, those folks did not make a complete buffoon of themselves in quite the way that Trump did. Or in quite the way the Boy Scouts did. They did everything wrong short of yelling, "Lock her up."

Re: Trump "working the room" Priebus fired today...
In a move that should not surprise anyone, the well-oiled machine that is the Trump administration fired Reince Priebus today:
President Trump To Reince Priebus: You're Fired
quote:
President Trump just announced that Reince Priebus is no longer White House chief of staff. He has replaced the former Republican Party chairman with Homeland Security chief John Kelly.
Did Reince deserve to be let go?
quote:
On Wednesday night, Scaramucci seemingly implied that Priebus was behind the leak of his financial disclosure forms, by tagging him in a since-deleted tweet in which he railed against so-called leakers. As it turns out, the information Scaramucci claimed was public information was not leaked at all, and was obtained lawfully by Politico.
Here is my own "prediction" from 6 weeks ago when Priebus did not appear sufficiently obsequious at Trump's public cabinet meeting:
Priebus seemed to understand the farce he was participating in and offered this:
quote:
We thank you for the opportunity and blessing to serve your agenda.
I am guessing that Priebus won't be around much longer.
I don't recall what I was thinking at the time, but I likely had read others making similar predictions when I posted my comments. Priebus was the Republican Party insider whom many people were surprised was even part of the administration.
