Re: Where the Democrats fail
Agreed. They should at least be pitching a bill that would fix the ACA as it stands now. Once that is done, they could start pitching something like a public option for health insurance, which was supposed to be part of the original ACA.
They should indeed. But now, and not prior to the Republicans screwing stuff up, is the time to do that. The Republicans are gearing up for a straight repeal vote. Unfortunately for that effort, the most unpopular part of the ACA for their constituents is turning out to be Obama, and Barack is gone fishing.
Perfect time to pitch a new plan. Unless you are counting on the Republicans failing to even get a straight repeal vote done.

Some of us are worried about just how much damage he will do in his last couple of weeks as president, to make it easier for the NY Times and Washington post to try to destroy Trump's presidency. -- marc9000

The politics on display here are among the most vindictive, petty, infantile behavior imaginable.
First and foremost, an objective view is that the Republic direction on health care is out of touch with what most voters want. Secondly, the Republicans have yet to advance a plan that works for their own senators.
As punishment for saying no to such plans, the administration threatens consequences for the state of Alaska. From the article:
quote:
Early Wednesday, Trump took to Twitter to express displeasure with Murkowski's vote. By that afternoon, each of Alaska's two Republican senators had received a phone call from Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke letting them know the vote had put Alaska's future with the administration in jeopardy.
Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan said the call from Zinke heralded a "troubling message."
"I'm not going to go into the details, but I fear that the strong economic growth, pro-energy, pro-mining, pro-jobs and personnel from Alaska who are part of those policies are going to stop," Sullivan said.
I tried to push back on behalf of all Alaskans. We're facing some difficult times and there's a lot of enthusiasm for the policies that Secretary Zinke and the president have been talking about with regard to our economy. But the message was pretty clear," Sullivan said. The Interior secretary also contacted Murkowski,
This childish behavior comes straight from the top or the administration. I wonder what Trump has planned for your state if your Senator happens to be a Democrat if he treats one of his own like this.
