We, in the most liberal nation of The Netherlands, have got some nice characters running around in our politics as well:

In The Nether the doctor will kill you now by Kees van der Staaij, member of parliament (his party has 3 seats out of 150).

To read the full article you need a sub, but Mr. Van der Staaij tweeted the letter himself, so here's a link to that.

And to make it completely convenient, the letter:

More intended as info, but if people want to discuss, social issues forum I guess.

So, a letter written by some Dutch politician published in a US newspaper. I'm afraid it doesn't convince me of the merits of his arguments.

Edited by Pressie, : No reason given.

I'd hope not, but it does demonstrate that even over here, we've got some pretty conservative individuals.

Since conservatives generally oppose all forms of engineered death for medical reasons I guess that's what you are objecting to, but it's not clear. You are in favor of all forms of euthanasia or what?

I'm not sure what you mean by "all forms of euthanasia", but I am generally in favour of it, yes. As long as it is the individuals choice. This includes those that view their lives as being "fullfiled".

The first comment on that 'article' referenced I saw says a lot.

"Hier word ik dus echt misselijk van. Wat een nare man is het toch!"

Translation: "I'm getting really sick of this here. What a really bad man you are!"

Whilst van der Staaij is a pretty conservative individual. this letter is not a very convincing way of demonstrating it. Euthansia is illegal in almost every country in the world. The views expressed above are pretty mainstream and centrist.
