Martin Landau
I mostly remember him from that lurid TV series with actress Barbara Bain, Space 1999.
But here is the end of the Woody Allen movie, "Crimes & Misdemeanors":

Pierre Henry (9 December 1927 — 5 July 2017)
Pierre Henry - Wikipedia
quote:
... a French composer, considered a pioneer in the musique concrte genre of electronic music.
quote:
Pierre Henry was born in Paris, France,[3] and began experimenting at the age of 15 with sounds produced by various objects. He became fascinated with the integration of noise into music. He studied with Nadia Boulanger, Olivier Messiaen, and Flix Passerone at the Paris Conservatoire from 1938 to 1948 (Dhomont 2001).
Between 1949 and 1958, Henry worked at the Club d'Essai studio at RTF, which had been founded by Pierre Schaeffer in 1943 (Dhomont 2001). During this period, he wrote the 1950 piece Symphonie pour un homme seul, in cooperation with Schaeffer; he also composed the first musique concrte to appear in a commercial film, the 1952 short film Astrologie ou le miroir de la vie. Henry scored numerous additional films and ballets.
Two years after leaving the RTF, he founded with Jean Baronnet the first private electronic studio in France, the Apsone-Cabasse Studio (Dhomont 2001).
quote:
Composer Christopher Tyng was heavily inspired by Henry's "Psych Rock" when writing the theme to the popular animated cartoon show Futurama. The theme is so reminiscent of the Henry's song, it is considered a variation of the original (Cohen 2001).
One of the pioneering giants of electronic music.

Jeanne Moreau 23 January 1928 — 31 July 2017
July 31st. Late to announce this, but she was one of the finest actresses ever.
I still rank Jules et Jim one of the best movies ever made.

Glen Campbell
quote:
Glen Campbell, the upbeat guitarist from Delight, Arkansas, whose smooth vocals and down-home manner made him a mainstay of music and television for decades, has died, his family announced on Facebook on Tuesday. He was 81.
His music usually wasn't quite my cup of tea, but I do like this song. Folks from my era have had the curse of having to go through these times twice. Many great musicians passed away when we are young (Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, Redding, etc.), and now we get to see many of the rest of them leave here.
Enjoy...

Re: Glen Campbell
If there's a rock and roll heaven, the band will probably ask Glen to play.
On his TV show he used to ask his guests where they were from. Jim Nabors was from Sylacauga, Alabama, just down the road from Talladega. Glen was proudly from DEE-light, Arkansas.

Re: Jerry Lewis and others we have known vicariously
As Jerry Lewis passes, I am reminded of two of EvC own who passed and of how though I never met these people I knew of them vicariously through their words--Robin Rohan and Buzzsaw.
With Jerry, of course--the memory endures through his many movies.
With Robin and Buzz, the memory is only found through the words they casually wrote here at EvC. Often as I browse through our archives and come across some of what they wrote, I remember that they are no longer with us.
