Re: Irma is a Whopper
I live just northeast of Orlando. Keeping an eye on the track now. As it stands, it looks like hunkering down is the option at this time if it skirts up the coastline. I'll definitely feel it, but the eye will be east of me.
The scary thing I see now is the potential impact to Miami and Key Largo if the track holds.

Re: Florida Keys hit first...
One disgruntled resident ranted that the forecasts had been for the eastern side of Florida until recently and he was mad at the weather service for misleading him!
Hurricanes are notoriously unpredictable. Just too many variables to be able to properly forecast passed a certain time-frame. Being in Central Florida, we are usually in the safest part of the state, depending on the path of various storms.
By the way, as of this morning, I am just starting to feel the outer effects of Irma. Lots of cloud cover and drizzle. By this afternoon and evening, the winds will pick up and the rain will become more intense. The good news from my perspective is the main eye of the storm is well west of me. But due to the size of Irma, pretty much everyone in the whole state is affected.

Irma has passed. All's well at my place.
Had some massive amounts of rain and some really strong winds gusts. I ended up losing a few shingles off my roof. But other than that, no issues. And power has just been restored to my area.
We got slightly stronger winds than forecast due to Irma's path changing at the last minute and bringing it closer to Orlando. Several tornado warnings but it appears no extensive damage in my area. Other than a lot of debris from leaves and broken tree branches.

Re: Hurricane Size Comparison
But hurricanes rotate counter-clockwise in the northern hemisphere.
Probably was just easier to animate everything rotating the same way.
Or maybe the video creator is from Australia or something.

Re: Hurricane Size Comparison
Me neither.
What's even funnier is that when you look at the hurricane formations, you can clearly see they are meant for counter-clockwise rotation, based on the cloud bands. But the animation has them going clockwise!
See, this is what happens when you give the important work to interns!
