Why should we know about Tybee Island?
I have no idea.
The US Air Force accidentally dropped a nuclear bomb there. It didn't go off, but it was never recovered.
In a training exercise in 1958, a fighter collided with a bomber. The bomber managed to remain air-worthy, but the crew requested permission to jettison the bomb as it posed a detonation risk should the emergency landing be difficult. The bomb fell into the ocean but did not detonate.
The Air Force claims that it didn't have a nuclear core, so it posed no nuclear threat, though the rest of it posed an explosive threat and thus the request to jettison. This is backed up by documentation when the bomb was loaded that it had a dummy capsule. However, testimony in Congress by the Assistant Secretary of Defense said that it had a plutonium core (one of only two at the time). But then again, regulations at the time prevented test flights with nuclear cores.
Searches were made and claims of increased radiation were put forward, but further investigation indicates that the radiation seems to come from natural minerals in the area.
Now, to jar: Are you implying something sinister? Vaguebooking is never appreciated.

Thank you for your submission to Science. Your paper was reviewed by a jury of seventh graders so that they could look for balance and to allow them to make up their own minds. We are sorry to say that they found your paper "bogus," specifically describing the section on the laboratory work "boring." We regret that we will be unable to publish your work at this time.

Minds are like parachutes. Just because you've lost yours doesn't mean you can use mine.
