It's coming up on New Year's Resolution time.
What will you do in 2018
  • to make the world a better place
  • to make you a better person
  • to help someone else
I'll be spending time and money to support progressive candidates and ideals
I'll work on more exercise and better diet (ketone diet)
I'll be donating to education services
Enjoy

New Years Resolutions Time
What will you do in 2018
to make the world a better place
Try and understand the struggles of others and love as Jesus would love
to make you a better person
may I have the serenity to accept the things i cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference
to help someone else
Helping others should be a daily nature for all of us. I have been accused by some here at EvC as being a compromiser, but the truth is I feel led to question what I question and to let go of the rest. Rather than trying so hard to change others, I must focus on improving myself...for a better Phat can make an impact on many people.
Im starting over with my effort at a year of sobriety, and I am finally able to focus more on that. Soon I will be reporting about it in the Addiction By Definition thread. I have been diligent at taking care of myself as I approach the age of 60, for i know that this is a time in life where good health is necessary for survival more than ever.
As a nation, we are entering uncharted waters. I have never been active in politics yet I feel it is my duty as a citizen to attempt to understand the main issues and their wider sociological significance and to voice my concerns and opinions in a fair and balanced manner...hoping to persuade others rather than just spar and quibble with them.
Other than that, as far as EvC Forum is concerned at least...I will be similar to my 2017 version, though I hope to attempt to provide quality entertainment and feedback as I hone my craft at discussion and debates. *fixes coffee*
And on and on......

I made a resolution during y2K never to make another new years resolution.
I am keeping that.

things I plan to do in 2018
I made a resolution during y2K never to make another new years resolution.
Well there are some things that I want to do this coming year, I don't think they are resolutions per se
I plan to turn in my old phones to a recycling program that furnishes phones to abused women. Even without a carrier the 911 emergency can be used and they can also be used to get wifi for email etc for job opportunities. There is also a wifiphone app.
I plan to build a wood canoe or kayak, haven't quite decided (the canoe would be easier).
Plus I want to get my two antique mini's up to full operational potential.
The grey van - Max - is a newer acquisition, recently from Finland where it was in a show in 2016. He just needs some fine tuning (heat, choke, etc) to operate in winter.
The maroon ("amarento") is an Italian made (under license with Austin Motors) innocenti - Amy - and she was bought as a pile of parts. Running now but needs a few things to be street legal.
It's good to have goals
Enjoy

Resolved: Live or Diet Trying
So you plan on the ketone diet, eh? That seems like quite a challenging regimen.
I researched dieting and all as you know and I agree that those types of diets are healthiest for my body type at least.
I'm already starting to eat better again. I'm taking some probiotics, drinking more water, and taking papaya (a natural digestive enzyme) and find that as long as I stay away from bad carbs and sugars, I feel better.
Maybe I can work myself closer to the ketogenic diet gradually. I'm not ruling it out.

Never Say Never

I remember Y2K! It was hard for me to believe that everything would actually go kerplunk, but I recall buying a stash of bottled water just in case!
But don't you think that the concept of resolutions is a daily exercise?(or should be)
Don't they now call it mindfulness?

Re: things I plan to do in 2018
One of my coworkers has had three of these as his past and current car:
He claims that in the first two, he could really feel the bumps, but they get like 40 mpg and his latest one has a more comfortable ride. Do those antique ones have a smooth ride?

What will you do in 2018
1. to make the world a better place
2. to make you a better person
3. to help someone else
1. It's difficult to make the world a "better place" in that where there are conflicting worldviews the answer depends on what the person considers "better" and so it is subjective to a point. For example it would be "better" for some if abortion was abolished apart from the mitigating cases, and worse for others. If you just mean "better for everyone", I must say I don't feel too compelled to quote Michael Knight; "One man can make a difference."
Yes, a difference, but a miniscule one it seems, because as much as I have invested in charities by tithing over the years, the truth is the same commercials will still play. We are told it will continue. That depresses me, my answer is to give more but that still won't change anything.
Now you may think I am arguing that it is futile. No, I will continue to do my small part but my real point is that others won't play theirs and until they do, we can't really make the world a, "better" place. Unity is the true answer and I believe it would only happen if everyone had the love of God rather than the small percentage that do.
2. What I've been doing since I was born again in about 1998. Making ourselves better, (transformed into His image) isn't a new year thing, but an every day fight against the flesh. That can be the smallest thing, like being tempted into losing my temper and shouting as someone that does or says something extremely unjust. Just biting your tongue can seem like a small victory but in the long run it can change your mind quite literally, in that those patterns of thought in the brain are influenced, and the next time it occurs that wick, that hot headedness, might just have lost it's edge and I don't get quite as angry. But it's not easy. Then there are the small temptations, eating too much, debating too much, outwitting evolutionists too much.
3. I don't know. I help people if I can but again what Michael Knight says seems unrealistic given how small a difference one person can make. I can only quote Spock on this one when he is asked how the new cadettes will perform. "as with all living things, each according to his gifts."
My gift is artwork. Sometimes I use that gift to raise money for charity. With God, He only expects you to give from what you have been given, like with the parable of those three servants and each is given a certain amount. My hope this year is to increase my own personal finances so I can afford more materials so that I can pursue my artistic goals and blessing others will be a part of that I would think, but sometimes because I am creative, it can be a new idea or a new thing that can spark off some new way of being a blessing to others. First I must bless myself, Lol, by not being skint anymore, and blowing what little I do have on material temptations. :
Love the minis by the way, and I always did love minis but only ever had a 1/43 scale one, Lol. Seems we both share the love of logic and minis. I hope you have a healthy year RAZD, and will pray tonight that it's one of your best yet! Bless you Sir. (and those three questions say something about you, and are meritorious!)

Happy Gnu Beer Mike, hope it is fruitful and rewarding.

Indeed, but without even a little difference there is no hope. So I have to believe that each little bit chips away at the status quo.

The van is rather bumpy and the sedan is much more comfortable. This is due in part to the wheel size (10" rims on the van and 12" on the sedan) because smaller wheels go deeper into the holes, and due in part to the suspension (the van is stiff so it can carry a load, while the sedan is set for passengers).
I get 40 mpg in the van. Haven't tested it in the sedan yet, but I expect lower because way bigger engine (1275 cc compared to 850 cc -- 50% increase), and she jumps off the line.

I appreciate your honesty, frako. And your humor! As for me, I usually make and revise my resolutions several times a month. Currently, i am optimistic and yet honest enough to admit that this too shall pass. The cycle continues....
