Making bitrate attribute display a default
We're starting a local low power FM radio station, and we have a hoard of albums as computer files.
I'm in the process of cross checking a hard drive's content versus a partial database we have, adding finds to the database and noting database listed albums that are not on the hard drive.
One thing I am doing is noting the bitrates of the albums. The bitrate is not one of the attributes displayed by default, thus I have to left ciick to open the attribute selection box, and then right click to select the bitrate attribute.
Now you may say, "that's just a little mouse movement and a couple of clicks". But I'm doing literally thousands of albums and that little action adds up to significant effort and time.
Is there some way to set a default, such that the bitrate (and maybe also the time length) attribute will automatically display?
Running Windows 7.
Please, someone tell me how. I might save a portion of my already limited mental capabilities.

Re: Making bitrate attribute display a default
Doesn't help.
If I do that in the root folder, all the subfolders then have a "bitrate" attribute column, but there is no such attribute to display. The "bitrate" column isn't displayed in the subsubfolder, nor for the audio files withing that subsubfolder.
Nice try though.
For what it's worth, the drive structure is:
Drive
Artist name folder
Album name folder
Tune file listing
In other words, I click on an artist name folder, and it opens to display 1 or more album name folders.
I then click on an album name folder, and it opens to display the list of audio files for which I'd like a bitrate attribute displayed by default.
The (4) default attribute columns are Name (as is file name) - # (as in track number) - Contributing artists - Album

The scope of my project:
I'm currently working on the M-Z drive. There are 1660 artist name folders, plus a various artist folder containing many subfolders (approximately 1/4 of the drive total content). The database currently has about 7000 entries (A-Z), and it's growing. I've already added 467 albums, and I've only covered A-E so far.
The M-Z drive also has a lot of A-L because it originally was artist by first name then last name. I had to go through an chanage things to last name, first name. There were also a lot of "The" band names - Eg. "The Allman Brothers Band" got changed to "Allman Brothers Band, The"
This is looking to be a several hundred hour project.

Re: Making bitrate attribute display a default
Well, I sort of got in the vicinity of what your talking about, albeit a different path. Still didn't work though.
One problem is, your descriptions and the photos at the link don't look like what I see on my screen. Nothing above the address line shows for my set up, including the menu line containing "tools". I presume there's a way to get that to display, but I can't figure out how.
----- More Googling happens -----
OK, I now got the menu bar to display, complete with the "tools". It seems that I can set things to have a bitrate column for all the folders and subfolders, which is worthless since folders and subfolders don't have a bitrate attribute. But when I open a subfolder containing music files, there is still no bitrate attribute column displayed. Pretty much and probably exactly the results I got before activating the menu bar.
Somewhere it must be defined that "Name", "#", "Title", "Contributing Artists", and "Album" all automatically display in folders that are all or dominantly music files. Now, if I could only get "Bitrate" added at that "somewhere".

ABE - Damn, did some more futzing, the same things I thought I did before, and now the bitrate column is showing up for all the music files.
