Both Joe Biden and John McCain are class acts in my book. We need more leaders like them.

I just reread an older article from The Atlantic titled What Is A Populist and it had some observations:
The Atlantic writes: Sounds to me a bit like dividing people into believers and unbelievers!
No definition of populism will fully describe all populists. That’s because populism is a thin ideology in that it only speaks to a very small part of a political agenda, according to Cas Mudde, a professor at the University of Georgia and the co-author of Populism: A Very Short Introduction. An ideology like fascism involves a holistic view of how politics, the economy, and society as a whole should be ordered. Populism doesn’t; it calls for kicking out the political establishment, but it doesn’t specify what should replace it. So it’s usually paired with thicker left- or right-wing ideologies like socialism or nationalism.(...)Populists are dividers, not uniters, Mudde told me. They split society into two homogenous and antagonistic groups: the pure people on the one end and the corrupt elite on the other, and say they’re guided by the will of the people. The Atlantic writes: Something fundamental in Trump’s approach to politics changed around the time that Steve Bannon, now the president’s chief strategist in the White House, joined the businessman’s campaign, according to Mudde. Trump had been condemning America’s allegedly incompetent political leaders for decades. But when Trump launched his presidential bid, he was not, in Mudde’s mind, a populist. Over time, however, he’s come to style himself as one, in ways that help illuminate why Trump does what he does and says what he says. Trump’s initial political vocabulary included the corrupt elite but not the pure people. Instead, in rambling speeches, he focused on just one person: himself. Our country needs a truly great leader ... that wrote The Art of the Deal, Trump declared in announcing his candidacy. Gradually, however, his speeches grew more coherent and populist. His remarks at the Republican National Conventionwhich were written by aide Stephen Miller, who developed a taste for nation-state populism while working for Senator Jeff Sessionsmarked a transitional moment. I alone can fix the broken system in Washington, Trump said, promising to serve as the voice of the forgotten men and women of our country. By Inauguration Day, the transformation was complete: Trump’s rhetoric was thoroughly populist. January 20th 2017, will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again, he proclaimed. That speech was written by Miller and Bannon, who envisions Trump leading a new economic nationalist movement modeled on the populism of the 19th-century U.S. President Andrew Jackson. I love reading what other writers write. It helps me understand the human condition in general! Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. For science and philosophy to continue to advance in knowledge, chance must be demythologized once and for all. —RC Sproul "A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." —Mark Twain " ~"If that's not sufficient for you go soak your head."~Faith Paul was probably SO soaked in prayer nobody else has ever equaled him.~Faith

Thats what happens when populist nationalism replaces balance global consensus.
Im just wondering how long populism will be in power? If the world gets tired of us, we could suffer by not having them help us should we need it. Chance as a real force is a myth. Yes, this is another sobering perspective on the Trump effect and the man himself.
Right now, apart from his core base of populist supporters, it would seem logical to me that the people who support him being in office...even if only tacitly, are currently making money in this economy. Granted itis not because of him, but it makes it easier to minimise the harm that he is doing...the other stuff. I predict that once our country experiences another bubble and another correction (which will be inevitable) that things will really get ugly and that the divisiveness which has been sown will come to full fruition with devastating social consequences. It will be at that moment that most of us will wish that someone else was in power. add by edit: Not that I like him now...I'm talking about society at large, however. It's easy to turn a blind eye when your investments have gone up 8% in the last year. Edited by Phat, : added pointChance as a real force is a myth. What gets me about Trump firing people is why he ever hired them in the first place? Most bosses evaluate a potential new hire before even hiring the applicant.
Surely Trump knew what type of person Steve Bannon was before taking him on, so he really can't claim that Bannon suddenly lost his mind, can he?Chance as a real force is a myth. Yeah, but where is the president of the United States going to move on to? Though I will agree that Trump is a 6.
In other news....
Despite Takedown And Legal Threat, Bannon Says He Still Backs Trump Sounds like Bannon is playing politics. Does anyone see him running for office or is he simply drumming up support for himself, as Trump suggests? It takes one to know one. In the words of this article, What Trump does and doesn't have in common with Hitler comparisons with Hitler are lazy at best.
In 1932, Germany had an unemployment rate of about 30 per cent. It had been bankrupted by the First World War, the reparations bill imposed by the Allies, and then the Great Depression. It had suffered ridiculous hyperinflation - the Reichsmark collapsed to 4.2 trillion per US$1 in 1923, wiping out everyone's savings. These statistics, stacked on 2-3 million war deaths, bear no comparison with America's recent history.(...)History does not in fact repeat, ever. There is nothing inevitable about Trump or the death of democracy which his rise is said to portend. We are not captive to history, but it has much to teach us. The historical lessons here are that the unthinkable is always possible, and that a political vacuum will always be filled by opportunists.(...)In a country which feels the loss of its status as sole military and economic superpower, which has not won a war since 1945, whose middle class has been hollowed out and its working class devastated by economic upheaval, while the real wages of most workers have been stagnant for the past 50 years but S&P 500 company CEOs now earn 204 times the pay of their average workers, these howls resonate. The anger in America has been building for decades, and it is deep. I for one dont think that many of us, myself included, could handle what the Germans had to handle. And by the way, how did the capitalists control Hitler? Im curious....Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. NoNukes writes: When I first heard this, being from Colorado, I was outraged at Sessions audacity until I realized that what I have read prior to this is being verified. Populists seek to foster division rather than unity. As for marijuana in Colorado, that genie is already out of the bottle and that bottle won't ever be capped again. eff Sessions released the memo that we've been expecting for a week or so announcing that the Obama era policy of not going after marijuana in those states that have legalized it has been reversed. Besides...the strategy behind some of these political decisions seems to be to distract the public from the main issues of the day...which continues to be Muellers investigation, which must be getting too close for comfort.Chance as a real force is a myth. I'll repeat my earlier prediction.
I predict that once our country experiences another bubble and another correction (which will be inevitable) that things will really get ugly and that the divisiveness which has been sown will come to full fruition with devastating social consequences. Once the bill becomes due, the capitalists will skate off with their money and tax breaks and the rest of us will be left holding the bag. Trumps base will blame the Left and full-fledged division will have effectively been sown.Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. Trump Denies Using Vulgar Slur; Top Democrat Says He Said It
I have a theory, which I may have mentioned before. Trump is purposefully being as newsworthy and controversial (yes and stupid and racist) as possible in order to distract the public from the actual Republican Agenda and to lure public opinion into focus on him exclusively. Any other explanation couldn't begin to describe his errant behavior.Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. Trump Intended To Fire Special Counsel Mueller In June, 'New York Times' Says ....this from NPR.
Trump, of course, calls it fake news. The New York Times is not some rag publication like the National Enquirer, however.
