Phat writes: One contention was that the candidate had to possess something called The Holy Spirit. We have not yet arrived at a consensus as to what this is and whether it is necessary. Any comments? Somebody who advocates the "Holy Spirit" will have to tell us why that is a necessary part of the nature of God. Then the other candidates can tell us if they agree or disagree and whether or not they possess (or are possessed by) the "Holy Spirit". Help scientific research in your spare time. No cost. That's because this discussion isn't about my ideas. Obviously, since you apparantly don't have any of your own.
It's about the nature of God (unless you're nominating me). Allow me. This pretender wholeheartedly and unreservedly nominates Ringo as the most egotistical prig (a person who is smugly self-righteous and narrow-minded) as having the largest hole I have yet encountered on any ass. Nothing personal, since I don’t actually know who you are or want to.

You'll need a different thread for that. No thank you. The thread would be too thin, therefore meaningless.

The Holy Ghost.
The Holy Ghost is akin to telepathic thought emanating from God. He uses it to bind us all to Him from the moment of conception. It is recording and reporting all that we do and think to God.It is interesting to note that many writers of the Bible were “in the spirit” when God spoke to them and showed them visions. They reported these visions as best they could but knowledge and technology at that time made them resort to analogies and colorful language to describe their experience. Even today as the Holy Spirit does the work of God. God with this telepathic communication “Holy Spirit” still communicates with those who seek Him out. The third party to the Trinity is Jesus Christ.I admit to having a problem with Jesus being the only son of God. God is eternal. We cannot place Jesus at the beginning as part of God because Marie was yet to be born and could not have born Jesus. Jesus a son of man also claimed to be the son of God. In a sense we are all sons and daughters of God, So I have no problem with His statement of kinship to God. I do have a problem with getting to God only through Him. Jesus may have been overly optimistic in His role of prophet. He was here to teach and preach, not give Himself power over the rest of us. Judgment is mine says the Lord. God has the power to immaculately impregnate Marie, this is fine. God may have ascertained that man would only take the leadership from a man. This would explain why He would have manifested Himself in Jesus. That or God wishes to at some time don the mantel of humanity and walk among us as human. This makes sense logically but if we all end up as part of the Godhead upon death in Heaven then this requirement is not necessary because He would have all that information and emotional knowledge from passed souls. Taking on bodily form is not required for His experience or for His communication with us. Jesus may have been overzealous or mistaken in His role as only Son of God as well as His end time predictions. In conclusion God is one. If we wish to call his own thoughts the Holy Spirit, as an emanation from God then we can say that God is two. Because of my doubts about Jesus, I cannot make Him three. RegardsDL |

Ringo writes: If only out of courtesy, I don't always shoot to kill. True. Sometimes you just shoot to set the varmints rattling so loud they lose it and bite themselves in the spleen. (sigh) Cowboys will be cowboys... ___ OK, I'll nominate a candidate close to home. This candidate has no name because any name one gives the candidate instantly renders an idea that is too small. It nurtures us intimately while remaining a mysterious stranger, half glimpsed, half hidden. For committee purposes we could enter the candidate as Ultimate Reality (hereinafter UR) provided the minutes register the provisional nature of such a label. (Could you please hand me one of those sticker things, Mr Chairman? Over there by the water pitcher. Hello, my name is--that's it. Thanks. Now a marker, please? Hsieh hsieh.) In Chinese the candidate is usually alluded to as Tao. That's not a name. It just alludes to 'the way' or 'the path'--as in 'The best path to follow in life is one that doesn't mess you up with the UR.' Let me admit right up front that the UR doesn't display any of the charisma most people seek in a god. By most definitions my candidate doesn't even qualify as one. UR generally shuns anthropomorphic representations and foregoes color, booming voice, lightning bolts and pizzazz. No human incarnations, no punishments, no promises. Just being. Being, though, is everything. My candidate is the ground of all being, the unity that lies behind all differentiations. The UR is like the ocean: great because it lies low. All streams feed it. At the same time the UR is the ultimate source of energy. All things emerge from it. UR thus has two sides, yin and yang, the absorbing and emerging aspects of the universe. It's as if the entity breathed, inhaling and exhaling. These two states complement and balance each other. The end of one contains the beginning of the other. The only representation one encounters consistently is admittedly rather abstract.
Thank you, Mr Chairman, colleagues. ___ Edited by Archer Opterix, : ongoing quest for literary perfection. Edited by Archer Opterix, : the journey continues. Archer All species are transitional.

no. the thread just got buried. cool . . .candidate though.
granted, I still prefer the ego-centric "I am God!" candidate (but only because I'm the one making the claim. ) "Have the Courage to Know!" --Immanuel Kant " . . .and some nights I just pray to the god of sex and drugs and rock'n'roll"--meatloaf Want to help give back to the world community? OK, I'll nominate a candidate close to home. Compliments on the carefully worded introduction of your candidate. I suggest the highest attributes of humankind might be acknowledged and included in UR’s qualifications for office. No other species, as far as I know, has the mental capacity to imagine, formulate or articulate the idea of God. Flexibility of our imagination is immediately evident in the many religions and cults in every culture. No other species has the ability to consciously alter molecular structures. Everything in the room I am in has been designed and manufactured by humankind. We are truly creative and innovative. We have powers of life and death over all life forms. Our thoughts become things, seen and unseen. Our perceptions form dynamic patterns of energy that can mutually interrelate or disintegrate. I suggest that our species are in the process of becoming Gods (to use the commonly accepted word) and the entire planet will rejoice when we truly acknowledge the fact and consciously accept responsibility for the awesome powers we possess. I believe that we are the ground of all being, the potential unity behind all differentiations. My belief is based on the simple notion that whatever humankind perceives has already become a relative reality. Malachi-II

ringo writes: And yet somehow the communication breaks down. Most critics claim that the communication breaks down on Gods end---that He is likely non-existent. There are some, however, who believe that it is the humans who have dropped the ball. Perhaps we need to demand something apart from evidence.
And an omnipotent God could provide tailor-made messages to every human being so that there were no internal inconsistencies. A Muslim could compare their explanation-from-the-mouth-of-God with a Christian and a Wiccan and they would find nothing to disagree on. SCENE: The Courtroom. It is eleven years later. Some of the committee has retired, while others failed to get reelected. The candidates are recalled to stand in front of the committee.at the table we have: 1) Jesus Christ, who is representing His Father. 2) Loki, the Trickster. 3) Sophia- the source of Wisdom. 4) The Flying Spaghetti Monster We re-open this town meeting up by asking questions and allowing the candidates to answer, based on the words that we give them.(since this is a Forum of ideas, and since each answer should be consistent with the character that is commonly ascribed to these candidates. Ringo again asks the candidates for Photo I.D. He seems eager to get the proceedings concluded, as he usually hands out spare change downtown near the local watering hole and is eager to go and see his forgotten people.Phat is the one who brought the committee out of retirement to finish the meeting, and it has ringo perturbed, as he *just* concluded another meeting with the local education board to bar the use of the word *miracle* in science class. ringo has the floor. keep in mind that this is a play---a made-up story. There are no lies in stories.
