Re: Day 236- A Bit Of Irrational Anger
From a science perspective, I feel fear. Anger. Jealosy. Even rage at the rest of the world passing me by. I have channeled my inner Trump supporter. It scares me. I never wanted to be an a**hole. I believe this is a stage in recovery, the feeling of being swamped with emotions, highs and lows. Being able to access your "inner Trump" is not necessarily bad -- you recognized it and evidently controlled it. We all have the beast in us, a primitive primate self. My too sense worth. Enjoy

Re: Day 328. Staring In The Mirror
Day 328. Staring In The Mirror Coming up on a year man. Don't concentrate on a lapse when you have so much success to celebrate. Nobody said it would be easy every day -- 3 steps forward 1 back still makes progress, and sometimes that 1 back means a reevaluation that takes to a different path to success. Enjoy

Re: Day 328. Staring In The Mirror
Physical activity, in general, seems to help with anxiety a lot. It releases endorphins, natural opiates. Enjoy

Re: Day 328. Staring In The Mirror
My doctor said: "To be honest, all that exercise is probably helping your anxiety more than the medication I've given you... but don't stop taking it." Another alternative is cannabis oil (without thc)

Re: Slogging Towards A Year (Day 359)
Courage my friend.
I'm almost at the one year mark. In one respect, I feel proud that I overcame a lifelong addictive habit. In another respect, I feel disappointed. All of the science told me that I would change and grow. ... Seems I read somewhere that it takes 3 years ... and even then you will have flash-back urges occasionally. I remember getting an urge to smoke 30 years after quitting ... and I was not a heavy smoker.
Maybe I'll just give it more time! I have another goal this second year. When I get my courage up to suffer some more, I'll fix my diet for good...eliminating high blood sugars. One would think it easy to eat right...but for me, this often proves elusive. Stay tuned... Always good to focus on new goals as old ones are achieved. Enjoy

Re: Relapse Blues
One lesson I have learned is how easily the brain resumes its old patterns. I am humbled by how much I did accomplish and wonder why I can't seem to do it anymore. I likely won't post anymore until and unless I climb out of this quicksand and get at least 30 days in again. To be honest, at this point I don't even feel like fighting. You can do it, you have done it before, and doing it again is easier -- your brain will easily resume that learned pattern as well, but you are fighting one you've been trapped in for a long time. It takes dedication and commitment. You can do it. Fight for the you that you want to be. Strength

Re: Day 91 and also Day 4
you can do it Phat, you've already proven that by halting the relapse and rejecting it. Focus on health is a good way to divert that energy to your benefit, so hope to see more on that. Are you still riding bike? Probably a little early for the year, but see if there is a local club to ride with. I have a couple choices here, one that is gently with good fellowship and one that is more competitive. I'm not up for the competitive, and doubt I can reach that level, but enjoy the company of the other. We have also joined the local Y as they have yoga and spin and swimming and with my senior discount it is $10 per month. Even just getting in the water for a couple easy laps can relax and invigorate. Enjoy
