Trump certifies Iran nuclear deal
The New York Times: Reluctantly, Trump Recertifies Iran’s Compliance With Nuclear Agreement
The US President has to certify to Congress every 90 days whether Iran is complying with the "Nuclear Deal". For the second time, the Trump Administration has certified Iran's compliance.
One of Trump's campaign promises was to scrap the deal and negotiate a better one. Unfortunately, this agreement involves the international community, especially the US' European allies. Trump is learning that negotiating deals is much more difficult in real life than on TV.

Sessions
And now Trump is unloading on Sessions. The New York Times this morning mentioned how firing Sesssions would alienate the "conservative" portion of his base.
I felt at the beginning that his mix of Wall St/Washington insiders and right-wing nihilists would be unstable. I wonder if this is where the mix becomes unviable.

Re: Trump "working the room" Priebus fired today...
I've lost track. Does this mean that only the real lunatics are left in the Administration?

You know, if I squint hard enough, I could see conservatives saying, "Well, Clinton woulda been worse."
What I absolutely cannot fathom is the large number of supporters who can still look at this Administration and say, "Yeah, that's the President I want!"

The New York Times:
About Stephen Bannon:
And anyone who stands in our way, we will go to war with.
Among those already in Mr. Bannon’s sights: Speaker Paul D. Ryan; Senator Mitch McConnell, the majority leader; the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law, Jared Kushner; and Gary D. Cohn, the former president of Goldman Sachs who now directs the White House’s National Economic Council.
I'll be loving it if they really do start to feed on themselves.

Re: The Proposed Tax Cuts Make No Fiscal Sense
As JonF pointed out, the real goal is to give big tax cuts to rich people.
In fact, that is the real purpose for trying destroying Obama are: The provisions of the ACA are partially funded by new taxes that primarily affect rich people, and the Republicans want those to go away.

NYT
After the 10 free articles the New York Times appears to be locked up tight, too.
Try deleting the cookies. That seems to work for me. Also, I seem to have a five article limit, but maybe that's device dependent.
By the way, I do subscribe to the NYT, but I'm too lazy sometimes to log in.

Re: The Truth About the New Tax Plan
Eliminating the mandate should have only a small effect on insurance rates.
Maybe in the short term. But if healthy people quit signing up for insurance in droves, leaving the insurance companies to pay for the sick customers, premiums will definitely go up. That's the purpose of the mandates.

Re: It's all about Me...
Funny thing, a large number of veterans supported Trump because he claimed he'd get us out of the wars in the Middle East.

"Mueller is rigging the elections!"
From CNN
I was at the laundromat this morning, and the TV was broadcasting a report that Trump (via Twitter, because of course!) is claiming that Mueller's team is going to try to rig the midterm elections.
I'd LOL, but I'm now actually getting kind of worried about whether they're going to be sending out their Brownshirts to start beating up voters at the polls.

Re: "Mueller is rigging the elections!"
Red state Republican governors and secretaries of state were among those who pushed back against Kobach's fake Election Integrity Commission. I hope they are among those who tell Trump to cool it.

It is also Congress' prerogative to impeach the President if there is an abuse of power.
I read somewhere (I can't remember where, unfortunately) that, as understood by the Framers of the Constitution, the phrase "high crimes and misdemeanors" (the justification for impeachment) referred not only to violations of laws, but also to actions that may be technically legal but rise to the level of egregious abuse of power.
And the power of impeachment was given to a political branch of government because it is a political decision as to what is an abuse of power.

Re: Trump accuses Canada of trying to burn White house in 1812
A few days ago, The Guardian had an article on Canada's protection of its dairy industry. Two points claimed in the article:
Canadian consumers themselves, the one's paying the higher prices, are in favor of the dairy protections.
Many American small dairy owners do not begrudge the Canadians their system; they'd like one like here in the US.

Re: Treaonable Trump
Trying to understand the President's behavior is all very well and good, but remember that he's a deranged imbecile. It won't be very fruitful if you assume that there is some sort of rational basis to his motivations.

Vocabulary list
And let us remember: those partners with whom the US has voluntarily signed trade agreements that are (allegedly) unfair...those are foes.
A dictator who poses a threat to neighboring nations and attempts to interfere with the electoral process of democratic nations: he's a competitor, and that's a compliment.
