Re: The Problem Of Evil..To Jar:
Come on, Tangle. Every charlatan and priest knows you can't sell bogeyman insurance without there being an ever present bogeyman. What bigger bogeyman can there be than the immanent threat of Ever-Lasting-DeathTM in the Lake of Fire for those Unsaved?

Re: The Problem Of Evil..To Jar:
'The end is nigh.' is just a lie you guys tell each other to keep yourselves frightened enough to believe the rest of it.
Salesmanship 101
Convince the customer they have a need for your product.
Can't sell eternal life without the threat of impending death.
You know how to tell a salesman is lying? His lips are moving.

Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

The End is Neigh ... eh ... nigh.
Because the book talks about one.
Actually the book talks about more than one and other books talk about many others. Apocalypse is a popular theme for lots of religions.
Cute little series on mythology. Here are two of their entries on apocalypse.
