But that is a trait that defines the Evangelical Fundamentalist
Percy writes:
He can't see, for example, the havoc Trmp's wreaking with the NATO alliance and instead thinks the true problem is the negative reports in the news, what he calls fake news, despite every bit of it being true since it consists mostly of quotes of Trump's actual words and the reactions to them.
But that is exactly how the people like Faith & Marc and the whole Christian Cult of Ignorance approach everything, particularly the Bible and Christianity. When confronted by what is actually written in the Bible they claim "fake news", "liberal interpretation", "misrepresentation" and fall back on the dogma of the Christian Right Wing Fascism.

how soon we forget

This has got to be the first time in history when the news media goes nuts when a U.S. president has friendly, largely meaningless meetings with foreign leaders.
Is this really how wingers think? If so then there is no common ground with them on Trump. Not even love of country, which should be one of our shared values, can help here.
How soon people forget Ping Pong Diplomacy and the frenzy of a US President going to China and encouraging direct relationships between the US and China.

A GOP carbon tax bill?
From today's AAAS Policy alert:
quote:
GOP Congressman Introduces Carbon Tax Bill
On Monday, Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-FL) introduced the MARKET CHOICE Act, legislation that would impose a tax on carbon aimed at fighting emissions and funding infrastructure. Among other things, the bill would replace the federal gasoline tax with a tax on businesses including refineries, power plants and steel mills based on how much oil, coal and other fossil fuels they buy. According to an analysis by Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy, the carbon tax would likely add 3 to 11 cents to the average pump price for a gallon of gasoline but also cut the amount of heat-trapping gases the country is releasing into the atmosphere. While Curbelo acknowledged the bill as bold and a conversation starter on climate, last week the No. 3 Republican in the House, Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), passed a resolution declaring a carbon tax detrimental to the economy a measure that has passed repeatedly in past sessions of Congress.
What is happening within the Grand Old Party?
The bill stands a near zero chance of even getting a hearing but just the idea of a modern GOP politician suggesting carbon taxes would be as unimaginable as a Republican supporting tariffs or abandoning free trade or making public threats to other nations or ...
Wait.

Trump Presidency not simply to make government impossible
The Trump Presidency not simply to make government impossible but rather a direct assault on the concept of a reality based society. His goal is to create a society where decisions are based solely on desire and fantasy and all connections to reality are not just ignored but rejected.
That should have been obvious from the day after his inauguration when he began his really stupid claims about the size of the crowds.
That should have been obvious when he made his claim he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue in broad daylight and not lose one vote.
That should have been obvious from the first mention of "alternate facts".
The truly scary part is that he is succeeding.
His public assertions have consistently been in direct conflict with reality and they are all willingly accepted by his base.
His inauguration was the most watched in history in the eyes of his base.
He could shoot someone on 5th Avenue in broad daylight and not lose one vote.
AbE:
We need to remember that for most of history societies were based on fantasy as opposed to reality to a great extent. Governments in particular were based on fantasy.
There's a famine? We displeased the Gods and are being punished. Sacrifice two chickens and a goat and hold a pachanga.
The King rules by Divine Right.
A comet is a sign in the heavens.
There are witches.
She has the Evil Eye.
Garlic wards off vampires.
Trolls live under bridges.
Bleeding removes bad humors.
Reality based societies are a recent invention and the antithesis of the fantasy based society.

Re: Trump Presidency not simply to make government impossible
Only if he is wrong.
Remember Trump speaking about Xis power consolidation in China.
quote:
"He's now president for life. President for life. No, he's great," Trump said, referring to Xi.
"And look, he was able to do that. I think it's great. Maybe we'll give that a shot someday," he quipped.
He already has the Court that just might allow that.

Remember this is Ratings Week
The thing to remember is that in the end the issues revolving around Trump will be decided in the Court of Public Opinion, not likely in a Court of Law; and in the Court of Public Opinion Trump remains popular within his base.

You seem to totally misunderstand reality. Changing votes BEFORE they are cast is fine. It's only a problem when you change votes after they are cast.

on the illegal aliens voting misrepresentations by Trump & Co.
According to US Code (not just San Fransisco or California) no illegal aliens are allowed to vote in Federal Elections. Period.
BUT if you look at the US Code Title 18 611 non-citizens are allowed to vote on certain local issues like the example Marc posted where there is a movement to allow undocumented immigrants to vote for school board members.
US Code Title 18 611 was last modified in 2000.
quote:
(a) It shall be unlawful for any alien to vote in any election held solely or in part for the purpose of electing a candidate for the office of President, Vice President, Presidential elector, Member of the Senate, Member of the House of Representatives, Delegate from the District of Columbia, or Resident Commissioner, unless
(1) the election is held partly for some other purpose;
(2) aliens are authorized to vote for such other purpose under a State constitution or statute or a local ordinance; and
(3) voting for such other purpose is conducted independently of voting for a candidate for such Federal offices, in such a manner that an alien has the opportunity to vote for such other purpose, but not an opportunity to vote for a candidate for any one or more of such Federal offices.
(b) Any person who violates this section shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than one year, or both.
(c) Subsection (a) does not apply to an alien if
(1) each natural parent of the alien (or, in the case of an adopted alien, each adoptive parent of the alien) is or was a citizen (whether by birth or naturalization);
(2) the alien permanently resided in the United States prior to attaining the age of 16; and
(3) the alien reasonably believed at the time of voting in violation of such subsection that he or she was a citizen of the United States.

Marc's rant is just another example of the ignorance and dishonesty of il Donald as well as his cult.
AbE: Just another data point. The Republicans held the majority in both House & Senate in 2000 when US Code Title 18 611 was last modified, not the Democrats.

Re: What's going on with the Russian sanctions?
Percy writes:
Which sanctions is Trump failing to implement?
IIRC he eased the sanctions on Russian steel and aluminum giant that is link closely to Putin, Rusal, and also eased the Obama era sanction and will allow US technology products meant for consumers to be exported to Russia. Of course many consumer level technology products can also be used for industrial and military purposes.
AbE: The sanctions mentioned above were eased in April BUT there is more recent evidence as well.
A July 24th. report on the Defense Authorization bill says the House and Senate agreed to allow Trump to waive sanctions on Russia or entities dealing with Russia without even first asking for approval from Congress.

No Taxation without Representation
Taxation without representation is tyranny.
James Otis maybe?
Anyone remember those statements?
So in that spirit which is certainly American voter id requirements should be something showing the person has paid taxes; say a receipt from the 7-11 or McDonalds showing sales tax was paid.
