He advocates giving, period. You know, just one line back you said he advocates paying your taxes. Maybe you should eat more green leafy vegetables, I hear they're good for the short term memory. I know this stuff is really really hard for the leftist brain, in a way that all the green leafies just can't cure, but 1) the Roman Empire was not a welfare state so He didn't have to address that problem, and 2) although I believe we should pay our taxes in any case it's because it won't cure the problem of theft not to, and 3) it IS theft and Jesus advocates voluntary giving for helping the poor, and 4) the way to cure government theft is education about what socialism is. Beforfe all the quasi socialist countries either collapse or go totalitarian communist. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

Nobody is forced to give. You can't whine about forcible taxation because Jesus told you to pay your taxes. There is no force, there is no theft. There's only obeying Jesus. And Jesus criticizes them while praising the lady who gave the two mites. What's your point?. They GIVE, they are not FORCED to give. And our geese will blot out the sun.

Let's see: "Idiot" in Leftspeak refers to people who know what they are talking about when it comes to socialism.

Right, we'll just sit tight until the quasi-socialistic economies collapse. Actually I could make a case for refusing to pay such taxes on the basis that they are theft, and maybe it will come to that. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

For somebody who claims to know what you're talking about, you don't seem to have much to say except silly mantras about "theft". Do you have any thoughts of your own? If you can make that case, why don't you do it instead of just parroting a lot of right-wing rhetoric? Actually I could make a case for refusing to pay such taxes on the basis that they are theft, and maybe it will come to that. And our geese will blot out the sun.

Ah yes now it's only personal attack, no substance. I think we've had this discussion, socialism is theft and that's what's wrong with it.

You're losing the plot. I pointed out that you are posting nothing of substance. You have done nothing to back up your claim that Jesus was wrong. You have done nothing to back up your claim that taxation is theft. You have done nothing to back up your claim that the Roman Empire was "different" so you don't have to obey Jesus. Ah yes now it's only personal attack, no substance. And our geese will blot out the sun.

Faith writes: Yes dear, Socialism 101 there, redistribution of wealth, from each according to ability to each according to need. No Faith, that is the message and Gospel of Jesus. Also that phrase was made popular not as Socialism but rather Communism; and Jesus was a Communist.

Just out of interest, is the tithe theft?

The tithe is voluntary, you are not put in jail if you fail to give it. And in reality a lot more than the tithe is normally given by those who can afford it. Besides which, in many churches there is a separate fund collected to help impoverished church members. As well as separate funds to support various ministries such as the sevices given to women with unwanted pregnancies, and local food banks and so on.

You've done nothing to back up your claim that taxation is theft. Weird. I have to prove that there's a difference between giving voluntarily to help out your impoverished neighbor and having to pay a tax to help him out that if you fail to pay it will put you in jail?

Since Faith doesn't seem to think countries with a sound market driven economy that allocate sustainable amounts of their GNP to social spending are actually examples of the successful integration of socialism (message 171), perhaps she could share with us a few examples of countries that she thinks are socialistic. Also, how would she classify the economies of say Russia, France, Norway, Canada, and the U.S.?

Yes Faith, you will have to prove that since taxes are imposed by agreement of the people paying the taxes with the one notable exception that there is a small body of people who must pay taxes that did not get to have a say in the imposition of the taxes. You do know how taxes are established in the US don't you Faith?

Norway, Canada and the US are examples of capitalistic economies that support some socialistic programs. I don't know about France or Russia. It seems successful enough in a way but there are hidden problems according to Shapiro.
And it is theft in any case. Again, theft in that money is taken from some individuals for the personal support of others. Taxes should be more like a fee we pay for the services rendered by government, such as public works, paying our public servants and so on. It's an entirely different thing to pay money for the support of other citizens who do nothing to earn it. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.
