Einstein's various expressions of his views on God were not consistent
Einstein spent 76 years on this earth. I've expressed many inconsistent ideas in about half that time.
Arguments about what dead people 'really' thought never seem to take account of the fact that people's views change over time.

Re: Night Of The Thinking Dead
I vaguely remember a story about Franz Mesmer hiding beneath a guillotine and attempting to establish psychic contact with the execution victim in order to determine whether and for how long they continued to experience things after the head was severed from the body.
I forget the results, but given the method I'm not sure that matters.

Re: Night Of The Thinking Dead
I think he was supposed to keep blinking for a long as he could after his head was cut off. Reports varied.
It's a different story - the one about blinking is told about Lavoisier. AZPaul3 mentioned that one up thread.
I tried to find more details about the Mesmer story; but the fact that Dr Guillotin was part of the royal commission who investigated Mesmer for fraud (together, funnily enough, with Lavoisier) is not helping my googling.
