So I gather this post is acceptable at EvC now?
Message 23 on thread about how to avoid giving offense.

Re: Concerns About Thread A Book about the Anti-Trump Conspiracy
Should declaring up-front in a thread that one won't be following certain of the Forum Guidelines really absolve one from following those Forum Guidelines? Wouldn't this be a dangerous precedent? ...
You could always put such posts in The Great Debate forum with themselves ... that's what it amounts to.

The opening post introduces the thread by saying, "I think we would be better well served as a society to teach people how 'not to be offended'." I think Tanypteryx (and probably a lot of other people) found your Message 22 pretty offensive due to the many inaccurate characterizations. I think his reply was intentionally meant to test if you yourself were heeding the lesson of "how not to be offended."
I guess we have our answer.

What a very interesting piece of illogic, quite remarkable. Lessee, I wrote a post "a lot of other people" found "offensive due to the many inaccurate characterizations." Hm. I wonder which ones and are they PC? Hm, "inaccuracies," not name calling or anything like that, just "inaccuracies." Hm. Not that it matters. But for some reason I'm supposed to be tested on whether I've learned this supposed lesson about not being offended, as if a mere proposal that we think about this strategy somehow magically morphed into a command from whatever gods rule EvC, but a command that only applies to me for some reason, since although Sir Dragonfly and "a lot of other people" found what I wrote offensive, they aren't subject to this command to not be offended. Truly remarkable bit of total mental confusion there.
I'm sad for EvC that such stuff is now acceptable.

You waste far too much energy on:
- complaining about being mistreated
- finding new ways to be mistreated
- being astonished, flabbergasted, etc. at everything any other poster says
- telling us how astonished, flabbergasted, etc. you are
- judging who is Christian and who is not
- etc.
If you were to put an ounce of thought into anything you said, you'd make everybody's experience here a lot better.

And our geese will blot out the sun.

It isn't that it applies only to you. It's that you were the only one to post here about being offended in a thread about not taking offense. The irony is strong with this one.

For what it's worth.
I think Tanypteryx made that comment as a (rather harsh) example of what was being discussed in thread. An instructive model.
I think Tany coulda/shoulda known Faith was incapable of discerning the nuance of the instructive model and that she would take it as a personal affront as the model was meant, in an instructive way, to elicit.
Further, I think Tany probably saw in his own mind that this response would toe right up to the line not too terribly concerned about Faith's reaction because, well, it really was a great instructive model in that thread at that time.
Or, I could be wrong.

Re: click buttons for cheers
When I click the cheer button, it flashes for a few seconds and that reverts back as if nothing was clicked. Same behavior with mark as read button.

Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts
"God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.
If your viewpoint has merits and facts to back it up why would you have to lie?

I've had that happen from time to time for years. It happens a dozen times or so and then it works.
ABE: Didn't work today after 23 tries, ten blinks per try, although I may have lost count. The blinking gets hypnotic after a while.
"You have not yet responded" also didn't work (only tried that one eight times).

I have replicated the behavior. It appears that Ajax has stopped working - it was working up until at least a couple days ago. I'm investigating.

You must mean this.

Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. For science and philosophy to continue to advance in knowledge, chance must be demythologized once and for all. ~RC Sproul
"A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain "
~"If that's not sufficient for you go soak your head."~Faith
You can "get answers" by watching the ducks. That doesn't mean the answers are coming from them.~Ringo
Subjectivism may very well undermine Christianity.
In the same way that "allowing people to choose what they want to be when they grow up" undermines communism.

Probably, it also happens for the "you have not responded, you have acknowledged" display.

Re: click buttons for cheers
A server control panel setting that I changed yesterday caused Ajax to stop working, though that setting should be completely unrelated to Ajax. I found a workaround (i.e., the problem is fixed) and have reported the control panel bug.
