quote: Gee, my Buddhist friends might have a problem with you indoctrinating their children in a religion that they do not follow. Since there are public schools in neighborhoods where the vast majority of families are non-Christian (for example, on Native American reservations, or in Chinatown areas), don't you think that it would be rather arrogant for the government to dictate what religious indoctrination the children received?
quote: So, you suggest that the US force a certain Christian indoctrination on everyone's children, using everyone's tax money, even the money paid by non-christians? How Facist of you.
quote: As the great Cthulu said, most of our Founding Fathers were Deist, not Christian.

quote: "Doesn't." "...Other times he doesn't" is the correct grammar, not "...other times he don't.
quote: You need a comma after "works", and the correct way to make a word plural is to just add an 's'; using the apostrophe 's' makes it a posessive. Oh, you also misspelled "compulsory" in the title of this topic. I don't normally pick on spelling and grammar errors because we all make them from time to time, but I just couldn't resist pointing out the numerous examples you made in the light of your blanket criticisms of science. Tell me again why I want to take your advice on how we should educate children?

He's not arguing in good faith, mike, just spouting a lot of hot air.
When people claim to know best how children should be educated, yet make numerous spelling and grammar errors in their writing, I get cranky.

Well, that's why I said that I usually don't bother pointing out grammar and spelling errors; I'm just as much an offender as most of us.
It's as you concede; those in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks.

quote: You do realize that the vast majority of Christians have no problem at all with science, right? People who's faith seems to rest entirely upon their own particular simplistic interpretation of the Protestant Christian Bible, are a very tiny minority among all Christians. The Catholic church is by far the largest Christian denomination and they have no problem with evolution, an old earth, or anything in science.

I stand corrected, you didn't say that the Founders were all christians.

So, is the Germ Theory of Disease anti-God?
Is the Theory of a Heliocentric Solar System anti-God? Is the Atomic Theory of Matter anti-God? Children are "forced" to learn these scientific theories, and none of them mention anything about God, and all of them could be interpreted as contradicting the Bible. Do you suggest that children shouldn't be taught that germs cause disease, that the sun is the center of the solar system, and that matter is not made up of atoms?

quote: Excuse me? It sounds to me like those Christian students were doing their best to impose their particular religious beliefs upon everyone in that class. If that isn't bullying, I don't know what is. Tell me, if some Hindu children objected to the teaching of something in history class, and kept bringing it up in class even though she was asked not to, and then a rumor started being circulated about the teacher's religious beliefs, and then several Hindu children decided that one of them should put a Hindu religious pamplet on the teacher's desk, would the fact that the child was suspended have bothered you?

quote: Or, that God is on our side, and that we are not communists.
quote: The US government was founded as secular with NO STATE RELIGION. That was a very important issue to the founders, because they had just broken free from England which DID have a state religion (still does) and they believed that imposing a state religion on citizens was wrong. Read Jefferson, Madison, and Paine if you want to educate yourself on their views. (I doubt you will, though)
quote: Except that Catholics believe that they need to have their ceremonies inside a consecrated church. That's why you can't have catholic weddings outside, on the beach, etc. Already your little plan has made the largest single Christian denomination unable to practice in the way they see fit.
quote: Apparently, God must not want you to learn anything, use your brain, or even to tell the truth, because you surely haven't done any of these things so far.
